SHSHL Flyers Cup Wrap (3-3-15)

Pennsbury and Tennent earned wins in Tuesday’s opening round of the Flyers Cup Tournament, advancing to Monday’s quarterfinal round.

#6 PENNSBURY 5, #11 PARKLAND 3

The Falcons rallied from a 3-0 deficit to earn the come-from-behind win in Tuesday’s opening round of the Flyers Cup. Pennsbury will advance to Monday night’s quarterfinal round where the Falcons will face the winner of Wednesday’s battle between #3 North Penn and #14 Abington.
Parkland, which led 2-0 after one period, opened up a 3-0 lead after Eric Johannes scored an unassisted goal 7:53 into the second period. A shorthanded goal just over a minute later by Jack Kelly (Craig Meschel assist) trimmed the Falcons’ deficit to two, and when Kevin Koerner scored late in the period, using assists from Jack Kelly and Ryan Mudrick, it was a 3-2 game after two periods.
Pennsbury owned the third period, outscoring Parkland 3-0. Mudrick (Anthony Bench assist) scored the equalizer, and it was Mike Tarasiewicz connecting on a power play goal 3:53 into the period that proved to be the game winner. The Falcons held onto their tenuous 4-3 lead until Kelly (Koerner assist) scored an empty net goal in the closing minute of the game.
Parkland held a 32-31 edge in shots. Pennsbury goalie Trevor Schadler came up big, turning away 29 shots to earn the big win.

#5 WILLIAM TENNENT 5, #12 HARRY S TRUMAN 0
Sparked by the hat trick of Mike Padgeon and the shutout performance of goalie CJ Lineman, the Panthers punched their ticket into Monday night’s Flyers Cup quarterfinal against the winner of Wednesday’s game pitting #4 Council Rock South and #13 Downingtown East.
Alec Dugan scored the only goal Lineman would need, using an Andrew Bean assist to spot the Panthers a 1-0 lead midway through the opening period. A Padgeon goal (Jack McKeever assist) at the 7:43 mark of the second period made it a 2-0 game, and the Panthers led 3-0 when Bean (Sean Ovington/Dan Brady assists) found the net late in the second period.
A pair of Padgeon goals in the third period – the first with an Ovington assist – gave the Panthers their final margin of victory.
The Panthers held a 28-20 advantage in shots. Lineman turned away all 20 shots he faced on a night that saw the Panthers’ defense silence the Tigers’ dangerous offense.
