SOL Athletes Excel at National Hockey Festival

SOL field hockey players excelled at the National Invitational Field Hockey Tournament.

The FSC Field Hockey Club’s U19 Black Falcons team earned the gold medal at the National Invitational Tournament (NIT). The NIT, put on by USA Field Hockey, is one of the largest amateur indoor field hockey events in the world. In total, 120 Under-19 teams in 15 pools competed at the national tournament at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, Va., Feb. 28 to March 2.

The Black Falcons were unbeaten in pool play with a record of 6-0-1 to win the gold medal. The Black Falcons roster includes all players from the SOL. Temple University assistant coach Kelly Driscoll, a member of the U.S. Women’s National Indoor Team, served as head coach.

Members of the team included Brianna DeAngelis (CB West), Kim Hitchcock (CB West), Melissa Herd (Pennridge), Madison Reiss (Pennridge), Addison Marshall (Pennridge), Rachel Gorman (CB South), Casey O’Donnell (North Penn) and Madison Shields (CB West).

“Our U19 FSC Falcons Black played very well at the National Indoor Tournament,” Driscoll said. “The team worked very hard in preparing for the tournament, and their hard work paid off. The development of this team over the past couple of months has been a lot of fun, and each player had a significant role in us winning at the National Tournament.”

The FSC Field Hockey Club’s U19 Grey Falcons also competed at the NIT in Richmond. Christopher Dock/Temple alum Charise Young served as head coach. SOL players on the squad included Sydney Badger (CB East), Hillary Scott (Quakertown), Rebecca Gerhart (Quakertown), Chessa Kownurko (North Penn), Amanda Laessig (North Penn), Megan Thompson (Quakertown) and Samantha Huttick (William Tennent) as well as Grace Harbison (William Penn Charter)

Michelle Finegan’s U16 FSC Black Falcons finished with a 5-2 record, placing second in their pool at the NIT held in Virginia Beach, Va., March 7-9. The team roster also included SOL players Emily Brennan (CB East), Bryn Boylan (CB West), Sarah Sheehy (CB East), Abbey Butler (CB East), Hillary Scott (Quakertown), Anna Thompson (Quakertown), Morgan Rimmer (North Penn), Carley Wingate (Pennridge) Reilly Finegan (CB East), and Riley Donnelly (CB East).

The U16 FSC Grey Falcons finished with a 4-2-1 record, placing third in their pool at the NIT held in Virginia Beach. SOL members included Meghan Griffin (Pennridge), Ryan Murray (CB West), Sophie Boyle (Southern Lehigh), Ava Rosati (Gwynedd Mercy Academy), Rachel Kagarise (Souderton), Margo Derham (CB West), Kyra O’Toole (CB West), Brianna O’Donnell (North Penn) and Danielle Dundas (CB West).
