Pennsbury earned a win over Conwell Egan in its season opener on Wednesday.

Pennsbury 7, Conwell Egan 1
If you are playing baseball in the Northeast, you should be used to the cold, damp, rainy weather in the month of March.
Mother Nature did not disappoint as both Conwell Egan and Pennsbury kicked off their season in a constant light rain and 40-degree temperatures.
“We are used to playing in the cold,” said Pennsbury head coach Joe Pesci. “The excitement of being out there warms you up a bit.
“We had an advantage. We got both scrimmages in and practiced Monday and Tuesday on the field. It was good to get into live game situations where it matters.”
The Falcons received strong pitching and a good offensive game in their non-league victory.
Brody McFadden started the game and pitched three innings before giving way to junior Zach Conley. Senior Andrew Gilbert pitched the sixth and seventh innings.
“Brody faced nine batters in three innings,” Pesci said. “He had one strikeout and gave up one hit. He threw 25 pitches in three innings.”
Conley gave up the lone run without allowing a hit on four free passes in the fifth.
“The four freebies gave them the run,” Pesci said. “He had a 1-2-3 fourth.
“(Gilbert) faced seven batters and struck out four, including the side in the seventh. We threw 12 or fewer pitches in the every inning but the fifth.”
On offense, Ethan Mackenzie and Pat Lawrence paced the Falcons with two hits each and a run scored.
Kyle Marshall was 1-for-2 with a run scored, walk and RBI while Zach Szumigala had a double, RBI and run scored.
Pennsbury will be back in action on Saturday in a league contest against Council Rock South.
“It is a big time game to start off the year,” Pesci said of facing the Golden Hawks.

UPPER DUBLIN 4, SPRINGFIELD (MONTCO) 0
Christian Huckfelt tossed a complete game four-hit shutout to lead the Flying Cardinals to a win over the Spartans in their SOL opener on Wednesday. He struck out six and walked just one.
A Connor McFadden single in the third inning provided the only run Huckfelt would need. The Cards iced the win with a three-run seventh inning that featured a two-run single by Steven Bell and an RBI single from Thomas Juelke.
The Cardinals collected nine hits off a trio of Spartan hurlers. Justin Horn led the way with a 3-for-4 effort and a stolen base. Cole Swiger had a pair of hits and two stolen bases.
