CONTINENTAL CONFERENCE

Hatboro-Horsham 1, CB South 0
The Hatters and Titans added another classic chapter to their storied rivalry on Thursday afternoon, with the host Hatters coming out on top by way of a walk-off single from junior Eric Lane.
Junior Kevin Barron pitched seven shutout innings, allowing seven hits and two walks while striking out nine.  Freshman Colin Kennedy made his varsity SOL Continental debut in relief of Barron.  He pitched four innings allowing no runs on one hit and one walk.  He also struck out one, while earning the win.
Dueling it out with Barron was CB South's Matt Radwanski. The senior threw eight shutout innings, allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out six.  Mike Kuypers came on in relief and took the loss when the Hatters scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 11th.
With one out in the 11th, Chris Crookham reached on an error.  Crookham advanced to second on a hit-and-run single by junior John O'Malley.  One out later, junior Lane stepped to the plate and smoked a single into right field, scoring Crookham.
In two days, the Hatters have played 20 innings of baseball.  Despite only scoring three runs in those 20 innings, they got two wins, thanks in large part to their pitching staff.  Dave Brown, Lane, Barron and Kennedy combined to allow just one run over those 20 innings.
The Hatters, who managed just four hits, were led by the two-hit effort of Eric Lane. The Titans collected eight hits, led by the three-hit performances of Alex Spector and Mike Anastasia.

“When you start out 0-2, like we did, you have start winning soon or start writing off the season,” said CB West coach Jim Ertel, who also received two-hit games from Sean Loughery and Brendan Snyder.
Snyder also saved a run with a strong throw from right field.

AMERICAN CONFERENCE

Upper Dublin 3, Upper Moreland 2
Dane Nealis’ bases-loaded single in the sixth inning proved to be difference in a pitcher’s duel between eventual winning pitcher Dan Jacobson and Eddie Decker.
Jacobson went the distance, striking out 11 while yielding just three hits against a potent Bears’ lineup, continuing a strong start to a season that coach Ed Wall says has not occurred by sheer happenstance.
“He put in so much work in the offseason,” said Wall, whose team improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the league. “He was in the weight room with Joe Logano, who came back and has done great job for us. We are seeing the benefits of it.”
For the Bears, who knotted the game with a pair of runs in a fourth-inning burst that saw Charlie Hooker contribute a RBI, Decker fanned nine Cardinals in five innings of work.
“He’s a really tough pitcher,” said Wall, whose squad was swept by the Bears a season ago.
“They have had a good run. We haven’t beaten them since 2012, when we swept them. They had our number last year.”
Nealis had a pair of hits, as did Harrison Guber, who scored the winning run after starting off the home sixth with a single.
“The bottom of our lineup really came through,” said Wall.
The Golden Bears are 2-2 in the league (3-2 overall).
Upper Moreland 000 200 0 – 2
Upper Dublin 002 001 0 - 3

Cheltenham 5, Wissahickon 1
The visiting Panthers quickly erased an early 1-0 deficit with five unanswered runs, which was more than enough for ace pitcher Calvin Salazar to nail down the win.
“This is Calvin’s third start, and he still hasn’t allowed an earned run,” said Cheltenham coach Frank Decembrino, who only turned to Salazar, his second baseman, out of desperation last season, when he responded with a 0.80 earned-run average.
“I can’t say enough about him. Every time he pitches, he gives us a chance to win. We’re just going to keep riding the hot hand.”
With the win, the Panthers improved to 4-3 overall (they have played more games because of a trip to Florida for some non-league contests) and 2-0 in the league.
“We are off to a good start,” said Decembrino, who received big games at the plate from Gabe Hofferman (3 RBI), Azaan Harris (2 hits, including a triple) and Max Perlistein (2 doubles, 2 RBI).
In going the distance, Salazar struck out six.
“He has been a blessing for us,” said Decembrino. “He is finally getting onto the radar, getting some attention for colleges, which is great.”
Conner Freeston took the loss for the Trojans, who fell to 1-3 in the league (1-4 overall).

Springfield 11, Norristown 10
In a game that saw the lead change hands several times, the Spartans were able to fend off a late rally by the visiting Eagles to post their first victory in three outings.
“It was a see-saw game,” Springfield coach Dennis Primavera. “It shouldn’t have been as close as it was, but we ran out pitching.”
Primavera used four pitchers, with sophomore Matt Gauss earning the win and Aaron Caplan coming in for the final out to claim the save.
Leadoff hitter Ian Quigg set the table for the Spartans with a hit, three walks and three runs. Ed Bacino had a pair of hits, two walks and scored twice. Martin Pauells, who had a hit while drawing three walks, had two RBI, Bill Hetrick came through with a bases-loaded double in the fifth inning, Chris Binet had a double and a triple with two RBI and DeAndre Johnson added three RBI.
The Spartans are 1-2 in the league while the Eagles fell to 0-3 (0-5 overall).

Plymouth Whitemarsh 2, Upper Merion 0
In his first start of the season, senior hurler Mike Whalon turned in what may have been the best outing of his career in a complete-game shutout.
PW coach Chris Manero says Whalon did not throw more like 80 pitches while fanning four and allowing but two hits. He faced just three batters over the minimum.
“He was one of our better pitchers last year, but he had his ups and downs,” said Manero. “In terms of being efficient and being around the strike zone, this was his best outing. He is somebody we are counting on to be at, or at the front of, our rotation this year, so this was nice to see.”
The Colonials (4-0, 3-0) scored in the top of the first inning when Connor Reilly led off with a double and Matt Cooper brought him in with a single.
“That was pretty much all (the scoring) our pitcher would need,” said Manero, whose team added a manufactured insurance run in the top of the seventh frame. “That was the best stuff from him that I have seen.”
