CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 8, SOUDERTON 2
The Patriots were able to defeat the Souderton Indians by a score of 8-2 during their Thursday afternoon meeting. The Patriots jumped on the Indians early with five runs in the bottom of the second and also benefitted from five errors committed by the Indians throughout the course of this one.
Behind the sizzling pitching of starting pitcher Robert Welhaf, who went six innings only allowing three hits and no runs while striking out three, the Patriots were in control of this one from start to finish.
Blair Killough closed out the game in the seventh for the Patriots, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit while walking two in one inning of work, but the Patriots still won this one fairly easily.
On the offensive side of the ball, Vince Careghini came through for the team going 2-for-4 with two RBI’s and two runs scored. He had a huge two-run triple in the bottom of the second that got the scoring going for the Patriots. Carter Usowski also did some damage from the plate in the bottom of the second with a two-run double. That was more than enough for the Patriots in this is one as those runs off of Indian starter Brian Gibbs were more than enough, but they would add four more runs due to hot bats and shaky defense.
When asked about his team’s performance on the day, coach Kyle Dennis said, “We’re playing good baseball and the wins are coming.”
The Patriots are alone at the top of the Continental Conference standings with a perfect 4-0 mark (5-1 overall) while the Indians fell to 2-2 in the league (4-3 overall).

NORTH PENN 11, QUAKERTOWN 1 (5 innings)
“LORD HAVE MERCY” may not have been what the Quakertown Panthers cried out, but it’s what they were granted in the fifth inning due to the 11-1 deficit at the hands of the Knights, who showed up to play some ball Thursday afternoon.
The bats of the Knights got hot and got hot fast.
After their first two batters reach base safely in the bottom of the first, their next two were retired, and it started to look like a good opportunity would slip through their fingers with only one run on the board, Bobby Scott had something else in mind. With two outs in the bottom of the first, Scott blasted a three-run homer out of the park and that got the Knights going.
“It was good to score first after falling behind in our last couple of games and that was a good piece of two-out hitting,” coach Kevin Manero said.
Zillur Rahim also came through for the Knight as he went 2-for-3 from the plate with an RBI and run scored as well. Chris Kersey also got in on the action going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Brady West, who went 2-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored, drove in a run as well along with Eddie Posavec and Nate Heller, who each drove in one run.
Brian Maher was the starting and winning pitcher for the Knights, going four innings giving up two hits and an unearned run.
“He looked very strong and was very efficient,” Manero said when talking about his pitcher.
This game was eventually called when the Knights went on top 11-1 in the fifth.
The Knights are 2-2 in league play (2-3 overall) while the Panthers are 0-4 in the league (0-6 overall)

HATBORO-HORSHAM 6, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 2
The Hatters were able to jump on the Titans early, and they never looked back. Led by starting pitcher Zach Prendergast, who only gave up two runs, the Hatter were able to put six runs on the boards and coast to a 6-2 win. The game – originally scheduled for South’s home field - was played at Hatboro due to unplayable field conditions at South.
The Hatters seemed to by energized by the move, and coach Pete Moore said, “That gave us some momentum going into the game.”
They rode that momentum early in the game, and after the Titans went down 1-2-3 in the top of the first, the Hatters were able to put two runs on the board with an RBI double by Grant Opalisky that scored Brad Humski. Opalisky, who went 2-for3 on the day with a double, two RBI’s, and a run scored, would score later in the inning on an error. Humski went 1-for-2 in the game with a walk, one RBI (in the bottom of the fifth when the team put up four runs), and two runs scored. Eric Lane went 2-for-3 from the dish with a double and a run scored, and Kevin Barron drove in a run as well.

Prendergast started and went six innings, giving up six hits, two runs (one earned) and three walks while striking out five. John Hlywiak closed the game for the Hatters, pitching a 1-2-3 seventh to close it out.

“We had some very good practices this week and we came out ready to play,” Moore said. “This was a big win for us.”
South shortstop Ben Moller, who has committed to Marist, led the Titan offense. He was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Ricky Dennis, who has committed to Monmouth, absorbed the loss, allowing five hits in five inning while fanning six.
The Hatters evened their league mark at 2-2 (4-3 overall) while the Titans are 3-1 in the league (4-2 overall).

The Rams plated two runs in the first and one more in the second before the Bucks got on the scoreboard with two runs in the third inning. The Rams got one of those back in the bottom of the inning. The Bucks made it a 4-3 game in the fourth, but the Rams added an insurance run in the sixth.

American Conference

NORRISTOWN 8, SPRINGFIELD (MONTCO) 2
The Eagles and Spartans played a close one through three innings, but in the fourth inning, the Eagles would take the lead and never give it back, winning this one 8-2. This was a huge win for the Eagles since Springfield entered the game undefeated in conference play.
J.T. Vaughn was the starting and winning pitcher for the Eagles as he would pitch all seven innings, only surrendering two runs in the top half of the third. That was more than enough providing the fact that his team was able to put eight runs on the boards to make it look pretty easy in the later innings of the game.

Brandon Iorio got the run production going in this one for the Eagles when he hit a double that knocked in Jimmy Perna for the first run of the game. Perna had tripled earlier in the inning. Iorio would go on to hit another double in the game that would plate two more runs, giving him a line of 2-for-3 from the plate with two doubles and three RBI’s. The Eagles took a lead they would not lose (3-2) in the fourth inning when David Randolph delivered an RBI single.
Bobby Altieri chipped in with a pair of RBIs.
When asked about his team’s performance, coach Vince Elsier said, “The team was resilient, fought back, and played a complete game today after dropping a tough one (to Upper Moreland on Tuesday.”
Both teams are 3-1 in league play, and the Spartans are 6-1 overall.

CHELTENHAM 4, WISSAHICKON 1
In a game that saw a total of five runs put up on the boards, the Panthers defeated the Trojans 4-1. With only four hits for the Panthers, you’d think that they would have major issues trying to win a game, but that wasn’t the case in Thursday afternoon’s game with the Trojans as their four hits led to four runs, which led the Panthers to a ‘W.’
Jack McGlade, the winning pitcher for the Panthers, pitched 6 2/3 innings only allowing one run while striking out six.
The Panthers able to put three runs on the board in the bottom of the first and one in the bottom of the fourth, which would be more than enough for McGlade. This win was the first for McGlade on the varsity level. Jack O’Grady came in to record the final out of the game, which he did by way of a strik out.
Coming through on the offensive side of the ball for Cheltenham were Rafeal Fernandez, Max Perilstein, Marshall Salem, Calvin Salazar, who all drove in one run. In the pivotal second, Perilstein delivered an RBI double, Fernandez a sacrifice fly and Salazar an RBI single. Matt Meyers had a double.
“I was happy with the effort,” coach Frank Decembrino said.
Ryan Toltzis led the Trojans with a 2-for-3 effort and one run scored. Billy McFarland absorbed the loss.
The Panthers improved to 3-1 in the league (4-2 overall) while the Trojans are 2-2 in league play (4-3 overall).

UPPER MORELAND 8, UPPER DUBLIN 0 (Wednesday, April 10)
Junior Eddie Decker tossed a complete game shutout, scattering four hits over seven innings while striking out five and walking none.
Junior catcher Pat Driscoll led the Bears’ nine-high attack, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Senior Nick Corbett gave the Bears a spark in the fourth inning when he singled and then stole second and third before scoring.
The Golden Bears are 4-0 in league play (7-1 overall) while the Flying Cardinals are 0-4 (0-6 overall).

National Conference

NESHAMINY 6, WILLIAM TENNENT 2
The Redskins visited the Panthers for a Thursday afternoon baseball game and left as the victors. The Redskins jumped on the Panthers early by taking a lead in the top of the first when they plated five runs, and they never relinquished it.
Starting and winning pitcher Cole Creighton got in on the action from plate, finishing the day a perfect 4-for-4 and driving in a run. Knocking in runs and throwing a pretty good game from the mound will definitely put your team on the path to success, and that was certainly the case on Thursday.
Neshaminy senior Justin Andrews had a pair of hits, including a double.
For the Panthers, who put up single runs in the second and third innings, Mike Wasserleben and Dan Ashton each had two hits.
The Redskins upped their record to 3-1 in league play (6-1 overall) while the Panthers fell to 1-3 in the league (1-5 overall).
