BENSALEM 7, WILLIAM TENNENT 4
The Owls picked up their first league win of the season Friday when they downed the host Panthers.

Mulvey followed with a single, and then Brendan Wermuth delivered an RBI single. One out later, Ben Anderson delivered the inning’s big blow, a two-run single. Nick Mulvey, who had a double in the second, contributed a sacrifice fly to put the Owls on top 4-0.
Tennent scored a pair in the fourth, sparked by an RBI triple by Ben Zeitz and a single by Jeremy Hefele.
The Owls opened up a 7-2 lead with three more runs in the sixth before the Panthers scored single runs in the sixth and seventh.
All told, the Owls collected nine hits with eight of their starters contributing hits.
The Panthers, who had seven hits, were led by the two-hit effort of Hefele.

PENNSBURY 9, HARRY S TRUMAN 2
Brody McFadden upped his early season record to 2-0 on the mound, going the distance and allowing just four hits and one earned run in Friday’s win over the Tigers. He fanned eight.
McFadden received plenty of support from his teammates, who pounded out 13 hits – including seven doubles. The Falcons were led offensively by Ethan Mackenzie (3-for-3, double, RBI, one run scored, BB), Jake Goldberg (2-for-3, double, 2 RBIs) and Zach Szumigala (2-for-4, double RBI, two runs, BB). Justin Jacko, DJ Endler, Kyle Marshall and Logan Buell also doubled.
The Tigers were led by the 2-for-3 effort of Joey Shiotis, who also drove in one of his team’s runs.
The Falcons maintain their stronghold on second place in the National Conference with a 3-1 mark (3-3 overall). The Tigers are 1-3 in league play (1-7 overall).

NORTH PENN 11, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 9
The Knights have shown a flare for the dramatic in recent outings, and Friday they were back at it again, opening up a seemingly comfortable 11-3 lead only to watch the Patriots rally with six runs in the top of the seventh to make things interesting.
“Up until the seventh inning, I thought we put together a real strong team effort,” coach Kevin Manero said. “The guys swung the bats well - they drove the ball. We had great starting pitching, we made most of the plays, and we ran the bases very aggressively.
“It was one of those games where we got out to a lead and then we were able to extend the lead. I think the most important inning for us was the fifth inning. We were up 6-0, and in the top of the fifth, they scored three to make it 6-3, and then we came right back out and tacked on four more runs.”
In the pivotal fifth, Matt Stella got the ball rolling with a leadoff single, and by the time the inning was over, Brandon Heggan, Anthony Cameron, Chris Kersey and Jared Melone had also singled, and the Knights led 10-3.
“I thought that was the turning point for us,” Manero said. “We’ve had trouble finishing games, and this time we did a really nice job of keeping the pressure on and continually putting together good swings the whole game.
“Their starting pitcher (Dan Morrin) went one-two-three and struck out all three of our guys out in the first inning, and I was thinking we could be in a for a long day, but we made good adjustments. I heard guys talking to each other, talking about what to do and how to read the pitcher. They took it upon themselves and put together a great effort.”
The Knights tacked on a single run in the sixth and were just a base hit away from bringing an early end to the game, leaving the bases loaded with an 11-3 lead. They then were forced to withstand the Patriots’ seventh-inning rally that included a pair of home runs. The first was a two-run shot by David Yanni, and after Brandon Birkhead was safe on an error, Carter Usowski hit a two-run home run. A Thomas Prato double was followed by singles from Nick Chimera and Pat Reilly, and it was an 11-9 game before the Patriots were finally retired with the tying runs on board.
The Knights were led by the standout efforts of Melone (3-for-4, double, 3 RBIs), Heggen (3-for-4, double, two runs), Mason Nadeau (2-for-5, double, 2 RBIs, two runs), Stella (2-for-4, double, one run) and Cameron (2-for-2, double, RBI, two runs). Chris Kersey also had a pair of RBIs.
“A couple of guys that have been struggling a little bit – Nadeau had a big day,” Manero said. “Jared Melone continues to do tremendous things for us out of the three spot, and Brandon Heggen – any time your seven hitter puts three hits together, that’s big.
“Anthony Cameron had a couple of runs scored and was on base three times out of the eight spot. That obviously is going to set the table for the top of the order which we feel is pretty strong.”
The Knights’ coach also acknowledged the play of Stella behind the plate.
“We have two catchers,” Manero said. “Matt Stella and Bobby Scott have both done a nice job for us here in the early going.
“We gave Stella a shot to start a couple of games this week. He just commanded himself very well back there. He made a couple of big defensive plays today.
“He threw a guy out at second on a ball in the dirt, and then he sprinted down the first base line and did a great job of backing up a throw. The kid tried to take second on the overthrow, and he threw the guy out at second. Those were two very big plays later in the game. Probably from the other side of the field, they looked like base running mistakes, but from our side of the field, they looked like great heads-up defensive plays. He also tacked on a couple of hits at the plate. He’s a senior, he’s getting an opportunity this year, and he made the most of it.”
For the Patriots, David Yanni (3-for-4, HR, double, 3 RBIs, one run), Usowski (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBIs, one run) and Prato (2-for-3, one run) led the offense.
Kellen Williamson earned the win on the mound for the Knights, allowing six hits and three runs in five innings (none earned) while walking one and striking out two.
As a result of Friday’s win, the Knights share the top spot in the Continental Conference standings with the Patriots. Both teams are 3-1 in league play. The Knights are 4-2 overall while the Patriots (4-1) suffered their first loss of the young season.

CHELTENHAM 10, UPPER DUBLIN 1
The Panthers have been getting good pitching this season, and on Friday, their offense exploded for nine hits and 10 runs as they handed the Flying Cardinals their first loss of the league season.
Jack McGlade was in complete command on the mound, allowing just one hit and one run in seven strong innings while fanning six and walking two.
“We got another really good pitching performance,” coach Frank Decembrino said. “Jack went out there every inning and kept them in place and gave us a chance on offense. He really did a nice job.”
The Panthers, who scored in every run except the sixth, plated single runs in every inning through the fifth to go on top 5-0. Any doubts about the outcome were put the rest when the Panthers exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh inning. Designated hitter Jack Gordon delivered a two-run single, and Gilbert Owens hit a two-run triple in the inning. He also had a sacrifice fly earlier in the game.
“Upper Dublin is good,” Decembrino said. “Today we got runners in scoring position, and we got a hit to get them in.
“That’s pretty much what happened in every instance. If we didn’t get a hit to score them, we sacrificed them in. We executed offensively. We played small ball when we needed to, and we got big hits when guys were in scoring position.”
The Panthers were led offensively by Azaan Harris (2-for-4, two doubles, two runs scored), Gordon (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, two runs) and Max Perilstein (2-for-3, RBI). Owens added a triple and a team-high three RBIs, and Kevin Graham scored three runs and had a pair of RBIs.
For the Flying Cardinals, Christian Huckfeldt led the way with a 2-for-3 effort and one RBI.
The Panthers remain unbeaten in league play with a 3-0 mark (4-3 overall) while the Flying Cardinals are 3-1 in the league (4-2 overall).
