SOL Boys' Lacrosse Wrap (3-26-16)

Upper Dublin and Wissahickon had big wins in boys’ lacrosse on Saturday.

UPPER DUBLIN 16, RADNOR 4
On a beautiful early spring day, in front of a packed house at Radnor High School, the Upper Dublin Cardinals took down the defending boys state champions 16-4 in an impressive showing on Saturday.
Upper Dublin led 3-1 at the end of the first period before pushing its lead to 5-2 at half. The Flying Cardinals’ defense was stifling as they played as a unit led by Henry Winebrake and Rocky Wright. Jack Rapine and Evan Scott went 12-of-17 on face-offs with great wing play from Nick Vernacchio, Conor Wall, and Nick Sowers. Upper Dublin was able to stretch their lead to 9-3 at the end of the third and then outscored the Red Raiders 7-1 in the final period.
Sophomore Dillon Lojeski was huge in goal with 14 saves. The Upper Dublin offense was led by Michael Sowers with two goals and seven assists, Mike Mullen and Max Winebrake both with five goals, and Nick Vernacchio with two goals. Conor Wall and Jerry Bardol each added a goal. Evan Scott dished out three assists and Nick Sowers added an assist. The Cardinals start their league play on Tuesday.

WISSAHICKON 13, ABINGTON 2
The Trojans controlled play from wire to wire in Saturday’s non-league game against the Ghosts, opening up a 3-1 lead after one quarter and extending that to 8-2 by halftime. They outscored the Ghosts 5-0 in the second half.
Clements led a balanced attack with three goals and two assists while Eric Kaufmann and Dunn both added three goals and one assist. Dickson had one goal and two assists, and Halligan contributed a pair of goals. Kyle Wolf had one goal and one assist, and Ethan Baim and Nick Pak both had a pair of assists. Esposito added one assist.
Noah Katz and McMasters combined for eight saves in goal with McMasters turning away six shots.
