SOL Boys' Volleyball District Wrap (5-16-23)

District 1 3A opening round
#5 UPPER DUBLIN 3, #12 COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1

The Cardinals and Indians split the first two sets of Tuesday’s opening round, but the Cards won the next two to close out the match.
Terrell Turner and Cory Pendleton combined for 32 kills in dominant performances at the net. Turner led the way with 17 kills to go along with two aces, five digs and one block while Pendleton had 15 kills, five digs and two blocks.
Setter Cole Brown handed out 39 assists and also had four digs and one kill. Landon Kullmann added six kills, one ace and three digs, Seamus Frayne contributed four kills and two blocks while Gabe Copley had three kills and three blocks.
Upper Dublin (14-4, 10-4) will travel to #4 Pennsbury for a second round game on Thursday.

#6 WILLIAM TENNENT 3, #11 SOUDERTON 0
The Panthers used an all-around team effort to defeat the visiting Indians in straight sets.
Connor Tucholski (9 kills, 2 blocks), David Dziekonski (9 kills, 1 ace, 3 blocks) and Sean Stewart (7 kills) led a balanced attack at the net. Setter Nick Buono had 32 assists and five digs. Anthony Buono’s 16 digs led the defense. He also had one ace. Also making important contributions were Sean Kelly (5 kills, 2 blocks), Sam Vernick 10 digs), John Ellis (4 kills, 9 digs) and Grady Keyser (1 ace, 4 digs).
For the Indians, Nate Brown led the way with 13 kills and nine assists. Ian Nice added 19 assists and six kills. Alec Kreiser had seven digs.
William Tennent (11-4, 11-3 SOL) will travel to #3 Bensalem. Souderton closed out its season with a 12-8 record (9-5 SOL).

#7 NESHAMINY 3, #10 KENNETT 0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-22)
The Redskins rolled to a sweep in Tuesday’s open round match.
“Great team win today against a tough Kennett team,” coach Pat Klingerman said. “Back to practice tomorrow to prepare for a tough battle against #2 Pennridge at their place on Thursday."
Setter El-Mansur Sagalive had 31 assists and also had one kill, four digs and two blocks. John Nice (1 ace, 14 kills, 8 digs, 1 assist) and Beknazar Baiyshbekov (2 aces, 10 kills, 6 digs) led the Redskins at the net. Toby Kovaschetz led the defense with nine digs and also had one assist. Also contributing were Brandon Sloskey (6 kills, 3 digs, 2 blocks), Aiden Hastings (1 ace, 5 kills, 5 digs, 1 assist), Chase Nuttall (1 ace, 4 kills), Jake Giuliana (1 dig, 4 assists) and Ruhan Jaikaria (1 dig).
Neshaminy (14-6, 9-5 SOL) will be on the road at #2 seeded Pennridge for a second round game on Thursday.

#8 CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, #9 UNIONVILLE 2
The Patriots needed five sets to put away a determined Indian squad in Tuesday’s opening round of district play.
East was led by Matt LaBouliere who was everywhere on the court all night. Matt banged down 31 kills and also dished out 25 assists. LaBouliere also added five blocks, two aces, and nine digs. The Patriot defense was led by Steve DiRugeris who tallied 16 digs.
Additionally, all-around terrific performances were turned in by A.J. Helveston who recorded 10 kills, an ace, and nine digs, and Reid Miller who notched 10 kills, and five blocks. Justin Berger was big at the net, adding eight kills, four blocks, and a dig. Ethan Scott chipped in with a kill, four aces, four blocks, and a dig, and Sean Figus added three digs. Pat Haurin had a solid match with a kill and two digs, Aiden Leichter added two digs. When East needed a lift, both Rhys Marshall with 21 assists, and an ace, and freshman Brady Colbert with eight digs, provided a boost.

Central Bucks East (14-5, 10-4 SOL) will travel to top-seeded Haverford for a second round match on Thursday.
