SOL Boys' Volleyball Wrap (3-19-24)

Non-League

Upper Dublin 3, Abington 0
Cory Pendleton and Zakary Brown each registered 11 kills to lead Upper Dublin to a 3-set victory over Abington in a Suburban One matchup on Tuesday.
In addition to their 11 kills, Pendleton added 10 digs and 1 block, while Brown chipped in with 1 ace, 4 digs and 2 blocks.
Scott Barenbaum dished out 31 assists to go along with his 1 kill and 6 digs. Dominick Plaku had 1 ace and 7 digs, Gabe Copley ripped 8 kills and added 3 blocks, Michael Loose scored 2 aces to go along with 4 digs and 1 assist, Seamus Frayne had 3 kills and 1 block, and Charlie Watt served 2 aces.
Upper Dublin will look to continue its winning ways when it visits Pennridge at 6:30 pm Thursday, while the Ghosts will visit Council Rock North at 3:30 pm Thursday.


Central Bucks South 3, Wissahickon 2
In an early-season, high-intensity American Conference matchup, Central Bucks South pulled out a 3-2 (25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 15-8) win over Wissahickon after winning the first two sets, then seeing the Trojans force a fifth set by winning the next two
Ben Grove led South with 26 kills, delivered some solid serving, and played strong defense.
Gavin Roth had a huge impact with 33 assists and 10 kills for the Titans, while setter Sam Snyder contributed 23 assists in a fantastic outing.
"Sam and Gavin have really turned it up a notch to fill the hole left by injured starter Josh Conley, who tore his ACL and is out for the year. He is greatly missed. I think the guys wanted to try to get the win for him tonight" said South coach Dave Schlosser. “Brody Cocca was the X-factor tonight. With some fast, powerful offense and some very much needed and timely blocking, Brody put us over the edge to win tonight.

“As always Will Tantum was a rock for us in the backcourt. Our 3 liberos all show up when you need them. Chase Stribling, Zeke Gift, and Will Tantum give it all they've got on defense.”
South returns to action when it visits neighborhood rival Central Bucks West at 6:30 pm Thursday.
Reed Harris led the charge for Wissahickon, who will visit the Bucks at 6:30 pm Friday.

Central Bucks East 3, Council Rock South 1 (26-24, 25-20, 22-25, 25-14)
The Patriots won a tightly contested first set and went on to win two of the next three to earn the non-league win.
For the Golden Hawks, senior setter Chris Fyke had 22 assists and1 ace, and junior setter Joey Bowman had 9 assists, 3 digs and 1 ace. Making important contributions were senior middles Adam Kirk (2 blocks, 6 kills) and Igor Kovalev (4 blocks, 1 dig, 4 kills), senior right side Stephen Rankel (4 blocks, 3 kills), sophomore right side Eddie Alksnis (1 block, 3 kills), sophomore outside Will Geiger (7 kills, 2 aces, 1 dig), freshman outside Josh Cook (9 kills, 2 aces, 5 digs), senior libero Tommy Fabrizio (8 digs, 1 ace) and Jacob Kramer (5 digs) as well as junior libero Jake Macartney (7 digs, 1 ace, assist).
Central Bucks East will travel to North Penn on Thursday, and Council Rock South will host William Tennent on Thursday.

Bensalem 3, Academy of Palumbo 0
Roman Walsh led Bensalem with 5 kills and 7 aces as the Owls topped Palumbo in straight sets in Tuesday’s nonleague matchup.
Dev Patel had 6 kills and 2 aces, while Jahaan Patel had 6 kills, 2 aces, and 2 blocks. 
Bensalem improves to 3-0 and will hit the road to take on Cheltenham at 3:30 pm Thursday. 

Neshaminy 3, Northeast 1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-20)
After dropping the opening set, Neshaminy claimed the next three to pull off a 3-1 victory over Northeast in Tuesday’s nonleague matchup.
Dan Berzin had 17 kills, 5 digs, and 6 blocks for Neshaminy. El-Mansur Sagalive provided a whopping 36 assists to go along with 4 aces, 6 kills, 6 digs, and 1 block).
Neshaminy also received solid play from Nurislam Urkunbaev (12 kills, 4 digs), Ryan Shedaker (3 kills, 3 aces, 2 blocks), Arlan Zharrasov (2 blocks), Jake Giuliana (1 kill, 2 blocks), Beknazar Baiyshbekov (1 ace, 10 kills, 2 digs, 4 assists), Ruhan Jaikaria (10 digs, 4 assists), and Vraj Amin (1 ace, 3 digs).
Neshaminy hosts local rival Pennsbury at 5 pm Thursday.

Lansdale Catholic 3, Souderton 2
Souderton made it close, but fell in 5 sets to Lansdale Catholic in Tuesday’s nonleague match.
Everett Self led Souderton with 17 kills and 22 digs, Connor Basile had 15 kills, Colton Musselman had 12 kills and 4 aces, and Derek Stefanowicz added 13 kills, 21 digs, and 2 aces.
Souderton falls to 0-2 overall and will visit Quakertown at 6:30 pm Thursday.

William Tennent 3, Archbishop Wood 0

Monday, March 18
BENSALEM 3, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 0

In their sweep of the Crusaders, the Owls were led by Jahaan Patel (10 kills 2 blocks).  Veer Patel had 36 assists four aces and two kills. Strong games at the net were turned in by Dev Patel (8 kills), Yosuf Khan (5 kills), Billy Bibeck (5 kills), and Vraj Patel (5 kills).  Roman Walsh had a strong all-around game with three kills, two aces, four digs and one block.
