COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, WILLIAM TENNENT 1 (25-13, 23-25, 31-29, 25-15)
In a marquee National Conference battle, the visiting Indians defeated the Panthers., taking control of the match by winning a hard fought third set 31-29 after each team had won a set.
“I just think it’s the experience in big games that really helped our players,” coach Greg Marchetti said. “You could see whoever won match three would kind of have the momentum.
“It was back and forth. There were a lot of different lead changes. We have a lot of guys on the team that have been through some playoff games and have been to the state tournament. Their experience and ability to stay calm in pressure situations really helps in a situation like that.”
Jason Yakimiv (12 kills, 13 digs, 4.5 blocks, 1 ace) and Eric Van Thuyne (12 kills, 9 digs, 1 ace) had big games for the Indians. Setter Logan Fuglestad was credited with 28 assists, nine digs, two aces and one kill. Will Desautelle had eight kills, eight digs and one block.

“Our senior class – we have three or four guys that have been starting since their sophomore or juniors years, so they’ve been on the court for big games,” Marchetti said. “Last year we had a very strong junior class that supported the seniors, and this year everybody is looking up to the senior class.
“As the season goes on, you see younger kids step up in certain roles, but your seniors really have to start from the beginning because a lot of the younger players aren’t used to being on a varsity court just yet.”
