CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, PENNRIDGE 0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22)
(Submitted article)
With their only loss coming to non-league opponent Parkland H.S. (#1 state ranked), the Pennridge  Rams looked to improve their league record to 5-0 and continue their recent dominance of Continental Division competition. Two seasons ago, it was the Bucks who had last beaten the Rams in the Continental, and tonight in front of Pennridge’s packed bleachers, their fans - now accustomed to W’s - watched bewildered, as if bankruptcy threatened their portfolio. As the markets closed, it was once again the black and gold brokers from Doylestown, whose investment earned them BANG for their BUCK.  Like cherries in a slot machine, three W’s landed in quick succession for the visiting Bucks, and the once hostile host was reminded that this division title won’t be defended without a rematch on West Court Street.
“This is a big win for our program,” said senior libero Sam Winderman.  “We were sophomores the last time we beat Pennridge and last season we struggled with them head to head.”
Winderman pointed to a strong start, frustrating defense highlighted by some spectacular digs, timely blocks, brilliant sets, and big hitting as the keys to CB West’s victory.
“We got off well in the first game and pretty much led throughout,” Winderman said. “Getting Will (Varner) back from injury today was super important. He played great and had an impact on us and them.”
Frustrated by the always solid, often spectacular defense of junior Ryan Alu and senior Sam Winderman, the Rams began to make some mistakes. Seniors Adam Philipps and Zach Paley were strong for the Bucks in the middle, and junior outside Danny Klapper led a hitting barrage that included himself, outside hitter Ryan Alu, and senior outside hitter Will Varner. Pennridge couldn’t find a consistent vulnerability in the West ranks as again and again senior Matt Douple gifted precision sets to his hitters with accuracy and deception.
“He spread the attack around all night,” Winderman said of Douple.
Consistent with their play the Bucks also got a lift from sophomore Louis Weimar (who served up some critical points for the Bucks, as Pennridge was pressing to capture the third game.  In the end, however, this night was all CB West, punctuated by Douple’s sets, Klapper’s kills, Varner’s valiance, and the acrobatic Alu and athletic Winderman’s back line legacy.
After a disappointing setback at Souderton last week, this Bucks squad chose the right time to gel Monday night, and they pierced the imposing Rams with antlers sharpened for battle.
Douple finished with 31 assists, eight digs and three aces. Klapper led the Bucks with 18 kills and six digs, and Alu added five kills and 11 digs. Winderman led the defense with 18 digs, and Varner added four kills and nine digs.
For the Rams, setter Jesse Smith had 35 assists, seven digs and four blocks. Ben Chinnici (17 kills, 12 digs) and Aaron Nelson (11 kills, five blocks) had big nights at the net. Kevin Jones added five kills. Jeremy Baum (12 digs) and Austin Rush (nine digs) led the defense.
Back into it, CB West will host The Patriots of CB East Wednesday night at West (7:00 pm).  With both teams coming into top form and a share of first place on the line, the black and gold gymnasium will be burning with rivalry, the school split their matches last season, with East winning the second; if you go, get there early, and dress for the heat!

The fourth set we had some miscues, and Quakertown won 25-20. The fifth set we were able to pull out a 15-12 win.”
