SOL Boys' Volleyball Wrap (4-26-12)

WILLIAM TENNENT 3, BENSALEM 2 (20-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 15-6)
The Owls extended the Panthers to the limit before falling in five in Thursday’s match.
“We suffered a major setback of not having our middle blocker and libero,” Bensalem coach Dave Trotta said. “I was concerned about how we would be able to play defensively, but the boys stepped up and held their own.
“The boys put a lot of pressure on themselves for this game, hoping to take the match in an effort to prove they were worthy to play in the playoffs. Despite losing the match, I feel the boys validated that they are ready for a spot in the playoff bracket by taking a team as strong as Tennent to game five.”
The Owls were led at the net by Sheel Patel (12 kills) and Daveshu Patel (11 kills). Neel Patel added six kills. Rikesh Patel had 30 assists to go along with seven kills.
Nick Gross (22 kills) and Kenny Rauchut (17 kills) had huge nights at the net for the Panthers. Brian Ebert added eight kills. Justin Keeny led the defense with 13 digs while Mike Sweeney added 10 digs. Setter Mike Excell had 50 assists in a big night.
The Panthers are 5-3 in league play (6-3 overall), and the Owls are 2-6 in the league (4-6 overall).

NESHAMINY 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-23)
Kody Naylor led the Redskins with 13 kills while Kevin Thomas added seven kills. Ryan Jamison contributed five aces to lead the ‘Skins from the service line. Zach McGowan and Wes Roy each had three aces.
The Redskins upped their record to 6-4 while the Indians fell to 0-7 in the league (2-7 overall).

PENNSBURY 3, ABINGTON 0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-18)
Pat Merrick had a big night for the Falcons, contributing 15 kills (.448 hitting percentage), four aces, two digs and three blocks. Chris Spano added nine kills (.533 hitting percentage) and five digs.  Sean Kropp contributed seven kills, one ace, five digs and one block.
Setter Jeff Yasalonis had 29 assists and two aces for the Falcons. Also contributing were Neil Helsel (three kills, two digs, two blocks), Spencer McCullough (two kills, two digs, two blocks) and Dalton Zimmerman (two kills, one ace, one dig). Defensively, the Falcons were led by the nine-dig effort of Troy Pereira.
The Falcons improved to 8-1 in their league (9-1 overall) while the Ghosts fell to 1-8 in the league (3-8 overall).

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, QUAKERTOWN 1 (13-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-21)
Ryan Mease led a balanced Panther effort, contributing 10 kills. Josh Morgan and Nick Grossov both had seven kills, and Mike Whittington had six kills. Setter Nate Whittington was credited with 27 assists.
While the Panthers fell to 5-8, the Bucks improved to 10-2.

PENNRIDGE 3, UPPER DUBLIN 0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-18)
The Rams remained perfect in match play, upping their record to 12-0. Erik Moyer led the Rams with seven kills and four blocks. Derek Rush and Ryan Chinnici both had six kills. Rush also had nine digs and two aces. Evan Jacoby added five kills and two blocks. Defensively, the Rams were led by Christian Lizana (11 digs) and Matt Ziegler (nine digs).
The Flying Cardinals fell to 2-9 on the season.

SOUDERTON 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-11)
Tim Jones (seven kills, five blocks, four digs, two aces) and Ryan Davison (six kills, three blocks) led the Indians to the sweep of the Titans. Gabe Clemmer had 26 assists and four aces.
The Indians are 9-2 in league play (9-3 overall) while the Titans fell to 0-11 in the league (0-13 overall).

PENNRIDGE 3, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 2 (25-10, 24-26, 26-28, 25-20, 15-10)
Erik Moyer (14 kills, three blocks, two aces), Ryan Chinnici (13 kills, three blocks, four aces) and Derek Rush (12 kills, 13 digs) led the Rams to the hard-fought win. Mike Bollinger added nine kills and three blocks while Kolby Smith had eight kills. Defensively, Matt Ziegler and Christian Lizana both had eight digs. Austin McVaugh handed out 50 assists in a strong outing.

BENSALEM 3, CHELTENHAM 0 (25-8, 25-18, 25-19
Daveshu Patel and Neel Patel both contributed seven kills to lead the Owls. Sheel Patel and Andrey Prikhodko each had six kills. Karen Rao had five kills. Prikhodlo led the Owls with three aces. Daveshu Patel had two aces for the Owls.
