SOL Boys' Volleyball Wrap (4-28-17)

BENSALEM 3, NESHAMINY 1 (25-16, 18-25, 25-22, 25-22)
The Owls notched an impressive win over a tough Redskin squad.
“Bensalem played as a team and deserved to win,” Neshaminy coach Pat Klingerman said. “They fought their way to a win. They played a great game.”
The outside hitting tandem of Philip Bui (14 kills, two blocks) and Joey Conley (13 kills, one ace) led the way for the Owls. Ronak Shah dished out 34 assists to go along with three kills. Shekib Ghafary, according to coach Tim Linehan, had two huge kills late in the fourth set to help win the game for the Owls. Greg Philip chipped in six kills.
“It was a total team effort as Jay Tilvawala and libero Christian Fan stepped up to make some key digs for the Owls,” said Linehan.
For the Redskins, Tommy Edwards (17 kills, three digs, two blocks) and Shaun Kelly (10 kills, five digs, one ace) led the way. Ben McGonagle added eight kills, and Anthony Verrecchio had five kills, two digs and one block. Tim Stressman had two kills and one block, and Steve Wenderlich led the defense with 16 digs to go along with three assists. Setter Miguel Montalvo dished out 38 assists. Steve Reich had three digs.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, CHELTENHAM 0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-16)
Daniel Klapper’s 11 kills led the Bucks in Friday’s sweep of the Panthers. Drew Enright added eight kills, and Chris Patton had six. Ryan Alu (19 assists) and Ben Finch (16 assists) split the setting duties. Alu also had eight kills, and Finch added four aces.

NORTH PENN 3, SOUDERTON 2
The Knights earned a hard fought win over the Indians.
“North Penn came and played with more enthusiasm than us and took us out of system,” Souderton coach Dave Stastny said.
Mike Pagan led the Indians with 15 kills, and Aaron Moyer had 23 assists.

PENNSBURY 3, ABINGTON 0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-3)
The Falcons received contributions from their entire squad in Friday’s sweep of the Ghosts.
Leading the way at the net were Louis Bavas (nine kills, .316, one ace, four digs, two blocks) and Justin Sadley (seven kills, .600, three blocks). Setter Andy Delworth had 25 assists and four digs. Charlie Bluestein led the defense with seven digs to go along with one assist and two aces. Also contributing were Danny Quay (three kills, .500, two blocks), Kyle Faulcon (two kills, .400, one dig, one block), Luke Bucksar (three blocks), Adam Hludzinski (two kills, one assist, two digs, two blocks), Brett Garretson (one kill, three aces) and Marshall Nixon (two kills, .667).
For the Ghosts, Cole Santora had four kills and four digs. TJ Dougherty had six digs.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 0 (27-25, 25-17, 25-17)
The Indians were extended to the limit before eking out a win in the first set and then rolled to the sweep of their neighboring rival.
Setter Nick Baniewicz had 28 assists, four kills and three digs. Alex Borman (nine digs), Jack Gunshenan (eight kills), Justin Walton (seven kills, one ace), Brian Haggerty (six kills, one block) and Harry Wyatt (five kills, 1.5 blocks) led the Indians. Also contributing were Sean Helmlinger (two kills, one dig), Keven D’Arcy (two kills, two blocks), Will Hewitt (two kills, one block), Vytis Duncia (two kills, three digs, one block), Eddie Mancinelli (three digs, two assists), Grant Shieh (one dig, one assist) and Nick Desautelle (.5) blocks).

UPPER DUBLIN 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-22, 25-23)
The Titans rallied to even the match at one set apiece, but the Flying Cardinals would not be denied.
Team leaders for the Titans included setter Mark Macios (two kills, four blocks, 28 assists, seven digs) and middle Justin Koren (20 kills, three blocks, eight digs). Outside hitters Mason Zeo and Jake Monson added six and eight kills respectively. Opposite Jack Hertkorn, according to coach Matt Ehlers, was consistent with three kills, three assists and three digs. Middle Joe Karn had the Titans’ only ace to go along with five kills and two blocks. Libero David Lulko led the defense with 15 digs.
