SOL Boys' Volleyball Wrap (5-2-16)

PENNRIDGE 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1, (25-18, 28-26, 19-25, 25-20)
In a key conference matchup, it was the visiting Rams defeating the Bucks to move one step closer to another conference crown.
Setter Jesse Smith had another big night, finishing with 40 assists, 12 digs and five blocks. Ben Chinnici was on the receiving end of many of Smith’s sets, leading the Rams with 22 kills to go along with eight digs and three aces. Cross Edwards (eight kills, six digs, two aces), Aaron Nelson (six kills, four blocks), Josiah Friesen (five kills, three blocks) and Kevin Jones (three kills, five blocks) also made important contributions. Austin Rush and Jeremy Baum led the Rams’ defense with 10 digs each.
For the Bucks, Daniel Klapper matched Chinnici kill for kill, also finishing with 22 kills to go along with two aces and seven digs. Will Varner added 10 kills and 16 digs, and Ryan Alu had nine kills and 11 digs. Libero Sam Winderman had 19 digs. Setter Matt Douple – like his counterpart – had a busy night, finishing with 51 assists and six digs.
Pennridge (12-3, 12-1 SOL) will travel to North Penn on Wednesday.

UPPER DUBLIN 3, NORTH PENN 1 (22-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-21)
The Flying Cardinals dropped the first set of Monday’s match but went on to win the next three.
“We came out more aggressive after the first set and were able to take the next three,” coach Paul Choi said. “(This is a) huge win for the program making a final push these last couple of games.”
Calvin Chan finished with a double-double – contributing 11 kills and 14 digs to go along with one ace. Evan Madden had 11 kills, five aces, two blocks and seven digs. Aaron Glatter (three kills, two blocks, one dig) and Albert Sungenis (three kills, three blocks and one dig) also contributed at the net. Joe Choi led the defense with 24 digs to go along with three assists. Setter Jose Palomque had 20 assists, 11 digs and one kill. Troy Gomer had one ace, one kill, eight assists and seven digs.

SOUDERTON 3, QUARTERTOWN 1 (28-30, 25-23, 25-6, 25-18)
The Panthers eked out a win in a marathon first set, but the Indians returned the favor in the second set and went on to win the next two to earn the win.
“The first two sets were nip and tuck and could have gone either way,” Souderton coach Dave Stastny said. “Both teams played well with a lot of good hitting and hustling defense.
“The third set we got on a roll with good serving from Luke Pagan and Nate Klaus, and the fourth set we were able to get the lead and hold on for the win.”
Ben Campman led the Indians with 14 kills, followed by Sam Hess with 10. Mike Pagan chipped in eight kills. Derek DiCesare led the defense with 17 digs. Setter Luke Pagan had 40 assists. Klaus had seven aces and Pagan, four aces.
For the Panthers, Mike Dierolf had a big night, finishing with 17 kills and 15 digs. Zach Dierolf had five kills and five digs, and Graham Wilson had three kills and two blocks. Kevin Steich added one kill and four blocks, and Logan Spieker had two kills, four digs, two blocks and one ace. Setter Drew Stout had 21 assists, and Kevin Finlayson had five digs and two aces.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-15)
For the Titans, middle Justin Koren led the way with 12 kills, eight digs, two blocks and one ace. Setter Mark Macios contributed three kills, two blocks, four digs and 14 assists.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, CHRISTOPHER DOCK 0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-15)
Jason Yakimiv led a balanced attack with nine kills, 12 digs and four blocks. Setter Logan Fuglestad had 24 assists, seven digs and one ace. Harry Wyatt added six kills, seven digs, two aces and .5 blocks, and Will Desautelle had four kills, three digs, two blocks and one ace. Alex Saraceno had 12 digs. Also making contributions were Tommy Angelina (three kills), Justin Walton (three kills, one dig), Keven D’Arcy (1.5 blocks, one dig), Jack Gunshenan (two digs, one kill), Eric Van Thuyne (three digs, one kill), Aaron Knotts (three digs) and Robby Ward (two digs).
Council Rock North (12-1, 8-1 SOL) will travel to Council Rock South on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match.
