SOL Boys' Volleyball Wrap (5-3-17)

BENSALEM 3, WILLIAM TENNENT 1 (25-23, 27-29, 25-22, 25-22)
The Owls defeated the Panthers for the second time this season. In Wednesday’s win, they were led by Joey Conley (19 kills, two assists), who, according to coach Tim Linehan, played an outstanding all-around game. Ronak Shah ran the offense effectively, contributing 32 assists and eight kills. Philip Bui (11 kills) stepped up late to make some big plays at the net. Greg Philip (two kills, two blocks) had a huge block late in the match to help the Owls earn the win.
For the Panthers, Brendan Carter had a solid all-around outing, finishing with 13 kills, five aces and three blocks. Joe Ferrell added three aces and six kills, and setter Keith Mueller had 34 assists. Charlie Green chipped in two aces, three kills and one block, and Dennis Grabert had two kills and one block. Matt Berndlmaier added three kills. Ethan Sklut led the defense with 12 digs to go along with one ace.
Bensalem is 5-8 overall (4-6 SOL).

PENNSBURY 3, NESHAMINY 0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-21)
The Falcons earned a sweep of their neighboring rival.
Louie Bavas had a big night at the net, finishing with 16 kills (.378), nine digs, one block. Sean Sweeney added 10 kills, one assist, 10 digs and two blocks. Charlie Bluestein led the defense with 15 digs and also added three assists. Danny Quay had five kills (.375) and one block. Setter Andy Delworth had 39 assists, one kill and six digs. Brett Garretson (two kills, four digs). Marshall Nixon (three kills, .429, one dig, two blocks), Adam Hludzinski (four kills, .333, one ace) and Justin Sadley (four kills) also contributed.
For the Redskins, Shaun Kelly (six kills, six digs, one block) and Tommy Edwards (six kills, three digs, one block) led a balanced attack. Anthony Verrecchio (three kills, two blocks), Ben McGonagle (two kills, one block) and Tim Stressman (two kills, three blocks) also contributed.  Steve Wenderlich led the defense with 10 digs and eight assists. Miguel Montalvo handed out 12 assists. Steve Reich (three digs) and Alex Swiderski (two digs) chipped in defensively.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, ABINGTON 0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-17)
The Indians received contributions from their entire lineup in a sweep of the Ghosts.
Justin Walton (seven kills, two blocks, one dig), Jack Gunshenan (six kills), Sean Helmlinger (four kills, one dig, one block), Kevin D’Arcy (three kills, four blocks, one dig) and Harry Wyatt (three kills, two aces, one dig) all contributed at the net.

Setter Nick Baniewicz had 20 assists, two blocks and one dig while Chase McCaulley (four assists) and Eddie Mancinelli (six assists) also saw time at setter. Alex Borman (three digs, two aces), Grant Shieh (three digs), Nick Ripans (three digs), Vytis Duncia (three kills, 1.5 blocks), Sean D’Arcy (three kills), Nick Desautelle (two kills, .5 blocks), Brad Haggerty (one kill, one block) and Will Hewitt (one kill) all made contributions.
For the Ghosts, TJ Dougherty led the defense with 11 digs. Daniel Gonzalez had seven kills and seven digs. Setter Roni Fishbein had 12 assists and 10 digs, and Cole Santora had three kills and five digs.

PENNRIDGE 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1 (25-14, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23)
Cross Edwards led the Rams with 17 kills, 19 digs and two aces while Ben Chinnici had nine kills, seven digs and five aces. Kevin Jones (five kills, two blocks), Zach Detweiler (four kills, four blocks), Josiah Friesen (three kills, two blocks) and David Cassel (two kills, three digs) also contributed at the net. Phil Warnke led the Rams’ service game with five aces and four digs. Setter Corey Quaste had 36 assists. Danny Rutter (nine digs) and Jeremy Pruss (six digs) contributed defensively.
Team leaders for the Titans included setter Mark Macios (one ace, one kill, two blocks, 19 assists, 11 digs), middle Justin Koren (three aces, 13 kills, four blocks, 10 digs) and middle Joe Karn (four kills, three blocks, two assists, two digs).
“Pennridge kept us out of system with their serving and hitting, and we were never really able to get our blocks going against them,” coach Matt Ehlers said.
Pennridge (10-5) will host Cheltenham on Friday.

SOUDERTON 3, QUAKERTOWN 1 (25-13, 25-13, 22-25, 25-14)
Souderton coach Dave Stastny called this a team win.
“Every player that played contributed,” the Indians’ coach said. “We started out with  strong serving and an all-around good team effort that helped keep Quakertown out of system. Our effort throughout the match was key to our win.”
Logan Spieker (10 kills, six digs, one ace) and Graham Wilson (eight kills, four blocks, three aces) led the Panthers. Zach Frei had 15 assists, three blocks, one ace and five digs. Justin Flor added four assists. Zac Mahler had 10 digs while Ben Wackerman added four.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, UNIONVILLE 0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-23)
The Golden Hawks rolled to a sweep of the Indians in a non-league match.
Jack Gieger (10 kills, one block, four digs) and Andrew Richards (nine kills, four digs) led the Golden Hawks at the net. Shane Slivinski (five kills, one block, 14 digs) and Jay Ferrara (four kills, one ace, four digs) also made important contributions. TJ Rodman once again led the defense with 15 digs and three aces. Setter Dane Paulson had 26 assists, two kills, two blocks, one ace and four digs. Harrison Cantor had a pair of aces.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, UPPER DUBLIN 2 (27-29, 25-18, 15-25, 25-22, 15-7)
