HATBORO-HORSHAM 55, SOUDERTON 52
It had been a long time between wins for the Hatters – 27 days to be exact, but on Thursday night, the Hatters brought an emphatic end to their eight-game losing streak, rallying from 16 down in the first half to earn the win.
“It was great,” coach Dennis Steinly said. “It’s tough going 0-8, and anything at this point would have been worth it. Eight in a row is a long streak. It was very frustrating for everyone involved.
“I’m just proud of the kids. They hung in there and stuck together.”
There was nothing to suggest that anything had changed for the Hatters when the Indians – winners of five straight  - jumped out to a 19-9 lead at the end of one quarter. They extended that lead to 16 before the Hatters put a run together late in the opening half to make it a 32-23 game at the intermission.
“We felt pretty good at halftime only being down nine,” Steinly said. “They scored the first basket of the third quarter, and then we outscored them 11-2 the rest of the way, so we were down two at the end of the third (36-34).
“We had a chance to win, and our guys came up with big plays.”
No one came up bigger than Walt Kimble, who scored 10 of his game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter. He was a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line in the frame.
“Jack Wingen had a big three to tie it,” Steinly said. “Sophomore Brian McEachern had a nice driving layup to give us a two-point lead.
“Everybody contributed. Defensively, we were trying to challenge every shot. You need to get stops in order to make a comeback. That’s where it all started.”
Wingen finished with nine points while Zach Quattro added 15.
“He was very consistent,” Steinly said of Quattro. “He scored in every quarter, and it was a really solid, consistent performance by him.”
Tracy Simsick had another big game for the Indians, scoring a team-high 16 points. Tim Markow added 11 while Nick Deihl had nine and Carter Knight, eight points.
“Simsick is a tough matchup with the lineup they have right now with (Evan) Slone and (Jared) Bernhart,” Steinly said. “He had a good game. He hit some shots right over Quattro, and I haven’t seen guys make shots like that in two or three years.
“I thought we did a nice job of containing Carter (Knight). They did a number on us on the first half, but we buckled down in the second half and hit some shots. I’m so happy they stuck together and continued to fight and battle.”
The Hatters improved to 3-6 in the league (6-10 overall) while the Indians are 4-5 in league play (10-6 overall).

Tiara Porterfield buried a three-pointer with 31 seconds remaining to knot the score, and when the Redskins drew a charge on the defensive end, they had a chance to win it but came up short, sending the game into overtime where they outscored the Vikings 12-7.
“McKenna Mullin hit a big three-pointer to get us out of the gate in overtime,” coach Joe Lally said. “From there, we played pretty good defense.”
The Redskins were without the services of Maddie Murray, and senior point guard Megan Schafer was under the weather and played just half the game. Senior Sarah Oliveira and sophomore Morgan Goldenbaum picked up the slack with both contributing 16 points.
“With Abington tomorrow night, it was a good win for us, and it was good to get other kids in the game,” Lally said. “Freshman Devon Storms played some good minutes for us and had six points.
“Stephanie Donohue is probably one of our unsung heroes who spells Maddie and Sarah constantly. She spelled Maddie tonight and had 10 rebounds. She was all over the boards. She’s one of those kids that has a nose for the ball.”
PV sophomore Katie Armstrong led all scorers with 26 points.
