GREAT VALLEY 16, NORTH PENN 12
The Knights found themselves staring at a 10-2 deficit at halftime, and although they regrouped and outscored the host Patriots in the second half, they could not dig themselves out of their early hole.
“We started off the season frazzled,” coach Heather Mellow said. “It took the entire first half to calm down and play smarter. Great Valley did a great job of gaining draw controls and keeping the ball on their offensive end most of the first half. Almost every time we touched the ball, we turned it back over to them.
“The second half was a different game for us. We started to get draw controls, made some better choices with our possessions. Unfortunately, we had too big a hole to dig out of. I was proud of our team for not giving up and fighting back.”
Kaitlyn Phifer had a huge game for the Knights, scoring five goals and assisting on two others. Bri O’Donnell added three goals and one assist, and Victoria Brauenle contributed two goals and one assist. Kristin Varilla and Julia Keffer each scored one goal.
North Penn (0-1) will travel to Neshaminy on Wednesday.
“Hopefully, we will start where we left off today,” Mellow said.
