Girls
PENNSBUY 11, HATBORO-HORSHAM 10
Maddy Spratt scored with three minutes remaining in regulation, breaking a 10-10 tie with a goal that turned out to be the game-winner.
“It was back and forth the entire game until we scored with three minutes left,” Pennsbury coach Shannon MacPherson said. “They won the draw, took it down in our defensive end of the field. They took a shot, the ball went out and we received the ball back and ran it down the field and just possessed till the last minute.
“Up until that last minute, Hatboro-Horsham was fighting. They wanted it. They played a great game. They’re very well coached, they have a lot of talent on their team.”
Spratt led the Falcons with four goals and one assist. Lexie Snyder added a pair of goals while Maggie Golder had one goal and two assists. Contributing one goal each were Brooke Weaver, Emelie Curtis, Sarah Walcott and Darrien Furiness.
“This team – they all work so well together, and everyone was contributing, and everyone did something to help,” MacPherson said. “Seven different girls scored, and it was one of those games where all of them kept pumping each other up.
“Brooke Weaver has been a great leader on attack. My captains – Brooke, Emelie Curtis and Caitlin Doyle – they all just kept pumping the girls up, getting them excited and keeping their heads in the game.
“It went from everyone – all the way down from defense to attack. The girls have worked so well together. They’re just such a positive team, and they want it. They’ve got a taste of winning, they know what it’s like. They come out and work hard until the very last minute of every game.”
Junior Celia Dolan turned away nine shots in a winning effort in goal.
“Our goalie is brand new this year, and she came up with nine saves today, which was huge,” MacPherson said. “She had an awesome game.
“She kept the girls in it, and I think that got the defense fired up and kept them in the game.”
For the Hatters, Gabby Liott had five goals, Audrey Liebfried contributed a hat trick while Camryn Ryan had a pair of goals.
