WISSAHICKON 2, PENNRIDGE 1 (OT)
Alex Chiodo-Ortiz scored in the 89th minute to give the Trojans the win.
“We were actually a little disappointed that it went to overtime,” Wissahickon coach Stuart Malcolm said. “We ended up really cutting down their opportunities to not too many, and if there were, they were really from distance. They had opportunities from long throw-ins and corners, but our goalkeeper really didn’t have too much to do.”
The Trojans took a 1-0 lead on a Cole Kropnick goal in the 30th minute, and that lead looked secure until the Rams knotted the score in the 75th minute when Ethan Aigeldinger scored.
“We gave away a throw-in with about five minutes to go in the second half, and they obviously worked on their set pieces,” Malcolm said. “They threw it in the box, and unfortunately, we didn’t deal with it. It went all the way to the back post, and their kid tied it up.
“We were pretty frustrated that it went to overtime and that we didn’t keep a clean sheet. In overtime, it went back and forth a little bit. We didn’t feel there were too many opportunities we gave up. It wasn’t a great goal, but it went in, and that’s all that counts.”
Matt Knittel and Zach Scannapieco both provided assists for the Trojans, who held a 17-7 advantage in shots. Wissahickon keeper Neal Guaglianone was credited with three saves while his counterpart, Pennridge keeper Zach Jarrett, had six saves.
Pennridge (3-1) will host Central Bucks South for its SOL opener on Tuesday while the Trojans (2-0) will travel to Upper Dublin for their league opener on Tuesday.

Girls
PENNRIDGE 1, WISSAHICKON 0 (2 OT)
Maddie Swartley scored an unassisted goal with 3:35 remaining in the second overtime to propel the Lady Rams to the dramatic win. Swartley gathered a ball that was being cleared by Wissahickon and kicked a high ball that hit off the goalie’s extended arms and found the net.
The Rams held a lopsided advantage in shots and a 5-0 edge in corner kicks. Trojan keeper Jen Bondarchuck came up big, collecting seven saves. Coach Shannon Creamer-Franke also credited freshman Emily Vervlied, an outside back, for turning in a solid defensive game.
“It was a disappointing loss, going 96-plus minutes, fighting hard only to die a quick death,” Creamer-Franke said. “However, I am happy with our team and how quickly they are coming together after losing six starters to graduation last season.
“We have to keep pushing forward and connecting our passes as our thought process is sound. We are just missing by a hair our opportunities. It’s coming.”
While the Rams improved to 3-0, the Trojans fell to 0-2. Pennridge will open its SOL season next Tuesday at Central Bucks South. Wissahickon will host Upper Dublin in its league opener on Tuesday.
