Boys
HATBORO-HORSHAM 1, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 0
Joe LaRoche scored an unassisted goal in the 21st minute, and that 1-0 lead stood the rest of the way.
“Joe LaRoche was a threat the whole game,” coach Kyle McGrath said. “He had a bunch of opportunities, and he just kept at it, and he finally finished the one in the first half.”
The shutout win was the Hatters second by that identical 1-0 score in as many games and the win snapped a five-game losing streak at the hands of the Golden Hawks that extended back to the 2009 season when the two teams battled to a scoreless tie.
“Any time we can get a shutout, it’s a positive, and we give ourselves a chance to win,” McGrath said. “Council Rock South has been a thorn in our side the last few years. We haven’t been able to beat them, so getting the shutout obviously was huge, and being able to get the victory was a bonus almost.”
Stephen Doney recorded eight saves in his second shutout of the season.
“Stephen was great again today,” McGrath said. “He made two or three point blank saves when we got a little relaxed defensively to keep the shutout. He’s been great the first two games for us.
“Both of my center backs – Sean Rich and Alex Hoffman, my two senior captains – have been leaders back there with a young goalie and two young outside backs, and they really stepped up today.”
