SOL Cross Country Wrap (10-9-11)

Below are some of the results for SOL teams from this weekend’s events.

North Penn senior Meghan McGovern completed the trifecta on Saturday, capturing the individual title for the third consecutive year in the girls’ varsity ‘B’ championship at the 2011 Manhattan College High School Cross Country Invitational. McGovern completed the course in 14:47 to lead the Maidens to the team title in the prestigious event held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The Maidens finished with 70 points, 16 points ahead of second place Niskayuna (N.Y.). North Penn’s Rachel Brown finished third with a time of 15:48. Courtney Kern and Jenna Reimer finished 20th and 21st with times of 16:54 and 16:55 respectively. Lynn Deckel was 25th (17:01), Colleen McGovern was 27th (17:07) and Janki Patel was 29th (17:13) out of 158 individuals participating.

Souderton’s Connor Linse captured the individual crown at the sixth annual Souderton Twilight Invitational on Saturday, finishing with a time of 16:38. Souderton won the team title with 58 points, edging second place Twin Valley by eight points. Teammate Greg Mendryzcki finished ninth with a time of 17:10, and Sean Dusza was 12th with a time of 17:16. Dave Capiobanchi placed 15th with a time of 17:23, and Bobby Greve and Colin Gaffney were 21st and 25th with times of 17:43 and 17:55 respectively.

Also finishing in the top 25 were Quakertown’s Colin McLaughlin (4th, 17:01), Plymouth Whitemarsh’s Cassidy Silverthorn (6th, 17:04), Quakertown’s Alex Balla (8th, 17:07), PW’s Dan Shalala (11th, 17:14) and PW’s Robert Biddle (24th, 17:54). PW finished fifth with 109 points, and Quakertown was sixth with 127 points in the eight-team field.

Central Bucks West finished second in the 10-team field at the girls’ varsity division of the 6th annual Souderton Twilight Invitational with 71 points. Two West runners – Meghan Jatarola and Gretchen Krause – posted times that met the national silver standard. Jatarola finished fourth with a time of 19:17, and Krause finished fifth with a time of 19:27. Souderton’s Melanie Tramontina, who finished seventh, posted a time of 19:44, which also met the national silver standard.

Other SOL runners finishing in the top 25 were CB West’s Bryn Erin Kerr (12th, 19:59), Central Bucks South’s Marissa Berneski (15th, 20:06), CB South’s Rachel Bachman (17th, 20:24), Souderton’s Reaghan Murphy (18th, 20:28), CB South’s Sam Haering (21st, 20:37), CB West’s Keelan McDonald (23rd, 20:42) and CB South’s Katie Blanchard (24th, 20:46). Central Bucks South finished third with 99 points, Souderton was sixth with 135 points, Plymouth Whitemarsh was seventh with 188 points while Quakertown was 10th with 255 points.
