WISSAHICKON DOWNED BY HAVERFORD IN PLAYBACK GAME
By Jesse Bernstein for SuburbanOneSports.com
The Wissahickon Trojans, who had made a habit out of winning on other people’s courts this year, saw their season come to an end Tuesday night at Haverford High School, losing 47-37. Junior Jim Roe led the Fords in scoring with 12 points, while senior Chris Lyons added 11 of his own. Senior Chase Wilson of Wissahickon led all scorers with 14, while his teammate, senior Chris Carradorini poured in 13.
The Trojans, the 30th seeded team in the District One AAAA Bracket, stunned third-seeded Great Valley earlier this month before being pummeled by Bayard Rustin. In their first playback game Friday, Wissahickon beat Plymouth Whitemarsh in a nail-biter to get to the Haverford matchup. With the win, Haverford reached the state playoffs for the first time since 1970.
“I’m very proud of our guys,” said Wissahickon coach Kyle Wilson. “We’ve been a little Jekyll and Hyde all season. We go beat Great Valley, laid an egg against Rustin. Go beat PW…You can’t go up against a team like this that executes so well and not play one of your better games.”
“We didn’t play one of our better games.”
From the start, Haverford’s superior discipline showed; eschewing forced shots for patient, time-consuming ball movement that gave them a nine-point first quarter lead. They were able to frustrate Chase Wilson, collapsing on him in the lane. On the other end, seniors Ryan Clancy and Chris Lyons combined for 10 first quarter points, with one of Lyons’ buckets coming on a surprisingly nimble post move.
Carradorini came out strong in the second, finding Wilson cutting to the hoop for a score before hitting a three of his own to cut the lead to four. He continued to attack, adding three more points from deep before deftly finishing a layup in traffic to cut the deficit to two with 3:21 to go. The teams traded buckets for a while before Haverford senior Ben Parker hit a three with 33 seconds to go, pushing the lead to 22-18, which would be the halftime score.
Wilson, held to just six first half points, started trying to impose his will on the Fords’ big men. However, he found himself without the little bit of wiggle room he was so accustomed to getting, and a violent block from senior Tom Leibig sent the crowd into a frenzy.
However, Carradorini wasn’t quite done yet—he hit a three from several feet behind the line to put the Trojans within one, and then put back his own miss on the next possession to give the Trojans the lead for the first time since 1-0. Haverford, finally finding themselves really pressed on offense, regrouped, and retook the lead with 3:21 to go in the quarter. The Fords entered the fourth quarter up 29-26.
Jim Roe, quiet after two first half treys, hit two more early in the quarter, the first of which put the Fords up by six. Unbeknownst to the Trojans, they would never get closer than that the rest of the game. Haverford kept the lead between 6 and 10 for the rest of the game, and Wissahickon could only watch as the Fords’ fans stormed the court at the buzzer.

#7 Abington 57,  #22 Central Bucks West 52 (OT)
Despite trailing by 11 points in the fourth quarter, Abington scratched and clawed and fought back, eventually forcing overtime thanks to a tip-in basket by senior Anthony Lee in the final second of regulation.
The Ghosts would eventually play to a five-point win over Central Bucks West in a District One Class AAAA state seeding playback game on Tuesday night at Abington High School.
Lee finished with 20 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal to lead the Ghosts (22-4), who will host defending state champion Lower Merion on Friday night to decide the No. 5 and 6 seeds for the PIAA playoffs.
Abington led early on by as many as seven points, taking a 19-16 lead into the half after the Bucks (15-11) hit a basket as time expired in the second quarter.  That basket would start a 17-4 CB West run, led by Kyle Salvitti, who scored 13 of his 20 points in the third quarter while knocking down four three-pointers.
Salvitti hit another trey in the fourth to put the Bucks up 41-30, but Lee and Abington fought back and eventually won in overtime.
CB West, which will face Spring-Ford this Friday to decide the No. 7 and 8 seeds in the state playoffs, also received nine points apiece from Jared Kelly and Kyle Schechter.
Matt Penecale finished with 10 points, five steals, three assists and two rebounds for Abington, while Amir Hinton added 11 points and two steals.  Khari Jefferson finished with six points and nine rebounds, including six offensive boards.
