#9 Abington 17, #24 Central Bucks West 6
Going into the locker room at halftime, Abington led Central Bucks West by a score of 4-3 after an evenly-played first half.  So when the final score had an 11-goal differential, you can be sure the game took a complete 180-degree turn in the second half.
The Ghosts came out on fire in the third quarter, taking a commanding lead early on en route to a 17-6 victory over the visiting Bucks at Abington High School on Tuesday night.
The Abington coaches decided to give Brian Gallagher the short stick on Tuesday, and it paid off, as he scored five goals and added one assist to lift the Ghosts in into the second round of the playoffs.
Joey Lomady also recorded five goals and one assist, while Will Dulin added four goals and two assists.
“Will was all over the field clearing the ball for us tonight,” Abington coach Peter Burns said.  “Brian was our obvious matchup that we wanted to exploit, and he stepped it up and was able to take advantage of it.  Joey Lomady also did a great job for us as always on faceoffs, and he was also a great offensive threat.  Blake Friedman played great in goal.”
Hunter Jones also played a big role on offense, scoring once while dishing out four assists.  Cam Leech and John Wink each tallied a goal and an assist, while Matt Gormley drew one assist.  Friedman stopped 11 saves in net for the Ghosts, who will visit Springfield-Delco on Thursday.
“CB West came out in the first half playing well, and both teams were ready to play, which is what we expected for a playoff game,” Burns said.  “We weathered the storm and corrected our mistakes in the second half and we were able to turn it on and really capitalize and get ahead.”
Abington, the No. 9 seed, improved to 16-4 overall on the season.  CB West, the No. 24 seed, saw its season end at 12-8 overall.

#10 Upper Dublin 6, #23 Central Bucks South 3
(Submitted by CB South)
UPPER DUBLIN, PA -- It seemed like two separate games were played by the Cardinals and the Titans in their first round playoff match with offense ruling the first half and defense ruling the second.

Evan Scott scored early in the second quarter, giving Upper Dublin a 4-2 lead over Central Bucks South, and that was all they would need.  Both defenses were stellar in the Cardinals' 6-3 win over the Titans in the first round of the playoffs. And when either team was able to generate a scoring opportunity, the goalies came up big.
Michael Mullen, who led all scorers with three goals, opened up the scoring, giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead early in the first quarter.  His goal was quickly answered by Titan freshman Michael Dutkiewicz, tying the game at 1-1.  A tally from Evan Scott and another one from Mullen gave the Cardinals a 3-1 lead before Jake Henze finished the first quarter scoring for the Titans, making it 3-2.
Scott and Mullen each scored one goal in the second quarter with Central Bucks South getting a lone goal from Evan Falkowski, giving the Cardinals a 5-3 halftime lead over the Titans.  At this point, it seemed like offense would rule the day.
However, it was a different game in the second half as the defensive units from both teams really shined!  After allowing a total of eight goals in the first half, both defenses really shut it down in the second half.  An early third quarter goal by Upper Dublin's Ryan Siwinski (who also had two assists on the night) gave the 6-3 final score as both goalies pitched a fourth quarter shutout.
Titan goalie Robby Richick was stellar in the net, keeping his team within striking distance, making 11 saves in a losing effort.  Quite a few of his saves were of the awesome variety.  Meanwhile, at the opposite end of the field, Bobby McPeake was solid in the net, shutting out the CB South attack for the entire second half.
Both goalies got a lot of help from their defensemen.  Jason Sklencar, Kevin Uzelac, and Bobby DiBrino stood out for Central Bucks South.  The Titans also received solid efforts from Tim Ross, Jake Laut, and Kevin Witchey (in his first game back from an ankle injury).  Playing a big role in McPeake's second half shutout were his defensemen as well.
Evan Scott added a pair of goals and an assist for the Cardinals (16-3) while Ryan Siwinski scored once and added a pair of assists. Sowers also had two assists.
the Cardinals will face Ridley on Thursday night in a second round game.

#15 Wissahickon 6, #18 Great Valley 2
In its regular season opener on March 21, Wissahickon not only lost to Great Valley, but the Trojans were doubled up, losing 10-5.
Fast-forward to Tuesday night, when Wissahickon looked like an entirely different team, defeating Great Valley 6-2 in a District One Class AAAA first round playoff at Wissahickon High School.
Jack Shea scored three goals to lead the 15th-seeded Trojans (15-4) to the postseason victory.
“The coaching staff and players wanted to make a statement, and we wanted to work hard to earn this victory,” Wissahickon coach Tom Walsh said.  “We came out and we thought we were the better team and we proved it on the field tonight.  We grinded out the first half and we finally got the shots to start falling and we pulled away in the second half and got the victory.”
Wissahickon and Great Valley (13-4) sat tied at 2-2 before the Trojans ran away with things in the second half.”
Nate DeGroat added a pair of goals for the Trojans, while Tommy Monaghan tallied a goal and two assists.  Brooks Melvin also drew two assists, while goalkeeper Jack Myers made 12 saves in net to earn the win.
“Jack (Myers) made a ton of important saves when we needed it and our whole defensive unit did a good job in the second half,” Walsh said.  “Ben Larue and Chris Tronoski did a great job as well and they were just playing tough and earning possessions with takeaways and that was very important.”
LaRue had three takeaways and three ground balls while Tronoski had one takeaway and two ground balls. Kyle Wolf had two takeaways and three ground balls, and Sean Miller had two takeaways and two ground balls. Tommy Clements was 4-of-5 on face-offs.
Wissahickon is now looking towards its Thursday opponent, as the Trojans will visit Bishop Shanahan at 4 p.m. in the hopes to knock over the No. 2 seed in the district.
“They’re the number-two seed for a reason,” Walsh said.  “They are a tough team, but we’re not going in there just to show up.  We’re going in and we’d expect to move forward and win and we’ll give it our best shot to come out with a victory.  We’re going to get after it at practice tomorrow and be as prepared as possible on Thursday to play a tough team.”
