The pretenders for the PIAA Quad-A District One championship are gone and the contenders that remain are two of the most successful programs in the state of Pennsylvania.

Neshaminy and North Penn have traveled this glorious road to the PIAA Quad-A District One title game before. The Redskins and the Knights have met three times in the district championship final with North Penn capturing the victory in two of the three meetings.

In 2010, North Penn collected an impressive 42-6 victory over Neshaminy.  In 2008, the Knights were equally impressive in a 28-0 victory over the Skins.  In 2004, Neshaminy was the big winner in a high-scoring 51-34 contest over North Penn.

The Knights also won the district title in 2011 with a 34-14 victory over Council Rock South; North Penn claimed the district title in 2005 with a 55-20 victory over Downingtown East; the Knights won a district championship with a 43-28 win over Interboro in 2003; North Penn captured a district title in 2002 with a 26-14 win over Interboro.  The Knights lost in the district title game in 2009 to Ridley 19-10; and North Penn lost in the district title game in 1999 to Central Bucks West 21-0.

The Redskins won the district title in 2001 with a 28-12 victory over Conestoga

Neshaminy and North Penn have each played twice in the state title game at Hersheypark Stadium.

Neshaminy won the state title in 2001 with a 21-7 victory over Woodland Hills and lost the state title game in 2004 in a 49-14 loss to Pittsburgh Central Catholic.

North Penn won the state title in 2003 with a 37-10 victory over Pittsburgh Central Catholic and lost in the state title game in 2011 in a 14-7 loss to Central Dauphin.

And the beat goes on…

Head Coaching Corner

Coaching Experience:

Neshaminy Head Coach Mark Schmidt:  19 years
North Penn Head Coach Dick Beck: 12 years
Career Coaching Record:

Neshaminy Head Coach Mark Schmidt:  160-65 (.711)
North Penn Head Coach Dick Beck:  136-27 (.834)
Neshaminy Head Coach Mark Schmidt says:  “We know we are playing a team that is playing great football right now.  North Penn is a team that can execute both on offense and defense, and Dick Beck is one of the best coaches in the area and has been for a long time.  The quarterback (Austin Shearer) has become a real threat throwing the football, they can run the football, and the defense flies to the football.  North Penn is the same team that it has always been, and we are going to have to get off to a good start if we want to be able to come away with a win.”

North Penn Head Coach Dick Beck says:  “We are both run first teams, and both of us like to run multiple formations.  They have been running a little wildcat formation, and we are going to have to prepare for that.  Neshaminy has been able to score quite a bit on defense, and we can’t afford to give them any big plays on defense.  The last two games against both Pennsbury and Perkiomen Valley we were able to answer when the other team scored on us.  Neshaminy is going to score – and we have to be able to continue to answer with a score of our own.”
