SOL District One Girls' Swimming Wrap (3-3-17)

North Penn captured its fifth consecutive District One Class AAA team title in girls swimming on Friday at LaSalle University’s Kirk Pool.

The Knights scored 305.5 points for the crown.

Kailyn Evans was North Penn’s top individual finisher, taking the silver medal in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.92).

For North Penn, Megan Zartman captured the bronze medal in the 100 backstroke (56.25), Heather Hartmann took sixth in the 500 freestyle (5:03.10), Parker Schulz finished in a tie for seventh place in the 100 freestyle with Claire Walsh of Penncrest (52.34).

Claudia Thamm, Parker Schulz, Zartman and Evans took second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:26.70).

“The team title means a lot because we worked really hard all season long,” Zartman said. “Practices were really long and super hard as always, but it was just really great to see it pay off here.

“We were all really excited and we had a lot of really good times. Now I’m really excited about states because we have a lot of qualifiers and hopefully when we get there we’ll do even better times.”

Abbie Amdor of Upper Dublin won her first district title in an individual event with her victory in the 100 freestyle (50.47).

Elle Braun of Upper Dublin took second in the 500 freestyle (4:57.95), Jenna Johns finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (56.28) and Aly Breslin was eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.54).

Amdor, Laura Pendleton, Braun and Johns won the 400 freestyle relay (3:25.49).

The Cardinals placed third in team scoring (229).

“I was very shocked by my time,” said Amdor, a sophomore. “I was not expecting that. Everyone on our team was doing so well I fed off of that energy and positivity.

“We’re really excited about the 400 free relay, too. Now I’m so excited to go to states. I can’t wait.”

Morgan Scott of Pennridge finished second in the 100 freestyle (50.58). Teammate Erin Shema took fifth in the 100 backstroke (56.39).

Shema, Anna Beno, Claire Beno and Scott took sixth in the400 freestyle relay (3:32.88). Pennridge finished sixth in team scoring (117).

In Class AA, Springfield’s Trinity Schmidt finished fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:13.37), Alison Curry took fourth in the 100breaststroke (1:09.87), Emily Cooney was sixth in the 100 freestyle (55.11), Megan Leibfreid took seventh in the 100 backstroke (1:00.71).

Carly Munger, Grace Talbot, Currie and Gwyn Cooney teamed up to take fifth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:51.53).

The Spartans were third in team scoring (270).

Olivia Pervall of Upper Moreland finished eighth in the 500 freestyle (5:26.92). Anna Maria Stylianou, Colleen Davis, Emily Sanceciz and Pervall placed sixth in the 400 freestyle relay (3:53.62).

Upper Moreland was fifth in team scoring (145).
