#9 BENSALEM 1, #10 CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0
Eric Corry turned a cross from teammate Brian Kolcoyne into the game’s only goal in the 27th minute, and the Owls’ defense made that 1-0 lead stand to keep Bensalem’s season alive.
“I thought we controlled the tempo well,” coach Joe Leone said. “We had most of the possessions. We had a lot of good opportunities, but their keeper (Redd Brown) made some nice saves on us.
“We kept our composure throughout the game, and we kind of kept them on their heels and kept on pressuring. We could have gotten more, but they made some nice plays. They had a couple of opportunities to score at the end, and our keeper (Chris Kilcoyne) came up big on a couple of nice shots they had and kept us in the game at the very end.”
Leone acknowledged the standout efforts of Jim McDowell, Avery Nyakan and Greg McDowell.
The Owls, who held an 11-7 advantage in shots, will face fifth-seeded West Chester Henderson in a playback game for the final state berth.
“We had a pretty tough loss the other day,” Leone said of his team’s 4-1 loss to top-seeded Great Valley. “We watched the film today, and after watching the film, they kind of got the feeling, ‘Hey, you know what – we were right in that game.’
“Aside from four pretty major mistakes they capitalized one, we were right in that game. We had a lot of possession, we had a lot of opportunities, but it just didn’t work out for us that day. We felt pretty good about ourselves even though we lost because we really weren’t outplayed, and that kind of gave the kids confidence.”
The Owls improved to 17-4 on the season while the Bucks closed out their season with a 12-7-3 record.
