BENSALEM 1, HARRY S TRUMAN 0

It was a win that was a long time coming. More than two years to be exact.
Monday’s win over the Tigers was the Owls’ first since they defeated Conwell Egan on Oct. 7, 2011, and their first in SOL play since their 2-1 win over Truman on Oct. 3, 2011.
“It was great,” Bensalem coach Amanda Tu said. “It was Senior Night, so the girls were really excited to play.
“Finally, everything they have been working on this season paid off tonight, and they got their first win. They were definitely excited, they were elated.”

Kara Bachman scored the game’s only goal at the 12:35 mark of the opening half, using a Mo

rgan Buechner assist. That 1-0 lead held the rest of the way.
“They were definitely aggressive tonight,” Tu said. “They were communicating much better on the field with one another.”
Tu commended the performances of Morgan Buechner and Brianna Buechner for the

Owls, who held a 7-6 edge in shots.Bensalem goalie Stevi Butler was credited with four saves in the shutout. Her counterpart, Truman’s Maria Dea, also had four saves.
“Obviously, it’s the end of the season, but they’re starting to realize their potential,” the Owls’ coach said. “We have three games left this season, and I think you’re going to see a lot better results in these three games. I think

they’re definitely realizing what kind of players they are.”
The Owls (1-13-1, 1-10-1 SOL) will travel to Abington for a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday while the Tigers (3-12, 1-12) will host William Tennent on Wednesday.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 2, NESHAMINY 0
The final week of the season is shaping up to be an interesting one in the National Conference. The Indians made sure of that with Monday’s win over the Redskins.
As a result of the win, three teams – Rock North, Neshaminy and Council Rock South – are now separated by just one game in the loss column as the season comes down the home stretch.
“This was huge,” coach Heather Whalin said of Monday’s win. “We lost to Neshaminy on their grass field, and we have been playing a little flat lately.
“I chalk it up to our youth sometimes. It’s also getting to that time of the season when a lot of pressure is on everyone, so I think they were playing really tight, but today they played unbelievably, the best I have ever seen them play the entire season.”
Gigi Tutoni scored an unassisted goal five minutes into the game.
“Gigi Tutoni definitely set the tone,” Whalin said. “She took the left baseline and scored the goal on her own.
“We scored in the first five minutes the last time we played them, and they came back and scored two goals to beat us. Today was a different tone.
“We were winning 1-0 the first game we played them, but it looked like we were losing just by their body (language). Today, from the look in their eyes, I knew we weren’t losing the game. They just had this air about them. They were pumped up and just wanted to win.”
The Indians took that 1-0 lead into halftime and then added an insurance goal when Madison Gouza (Amrit Ahluwalia assist) scored during corner play midway through the second half.
“They played as a complete team today,” Whalin said. “They stuck to the game plan, they made the adjustments we needed to do throughout the game, and it all came together today.
“The passing was unbelievable today.”
The win, according to Whalin, was a total team effort.
“Everybody played well,” the Indians’ coach said. “Amrit played well, the entire defense played well. Everybody – our forwards - it was a complete team effort today.”

Continental Conference

NORTH PENN 1, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0
West’s stay at the top of the Continental Conference standings lasted just four days, thanks to an upstart Maiden squad that has gotten hot at the right time. The win, which knocked West out of a tie with CB South atop the standings, was the Maidens’ fifth in six games. Four of those wins have been shutouts.
“It was a great win,” coach Shannon McCracken said. “Beating a team that was tied for first in our league was just a great accomplishment and a great confidence builder for the girls as we move forward into our last two games.”
The Maidens got on the scoreboard with four minutes remaining in the opening half when Ella Lundquist turned an Amanda Laessig pass into a goal. That 1-0 lead stood the rest of the way in a game of limited offensive opportunities for both squads.
The Maidens held a 5-4 edge in shots and a 6-3 advantage in corners.
“There was a lot of play between the 25s,” McCracken said. “I was really impressed with my midfield and the way they transitioned the ball from the backfield.
“My defense played very cleanly today. Cassidy Barrow played a great game.”
Barrow was given the task of marking Erick Fiorelli, who had burned the Maidens for the hat trick in the initial meeting between the two squads.
“Cassidy did a great job of having patience when he used his speed, and she stepped to the ball with her stick down when he was doing stick work,” McCracken said. “The girls passed crisply, and everyone was determined in this game.
“The girls are on a mission. We got knocked down with a few losses in the middle of the season, and they are taking that and moving forward.”
McCracken lauded the performances of her midfielders – senior captains Katrina Marger and Shannon Talbot as well as freshman Amber Blackshear, forward Casey O’Donnell and defenders Barrow and Frankie Tossona.
North Penn goalie Chessa Kownurko and West goal Brianna DeAngelis were both credited with four saves.
The Maidens (9-7, 6-6 SOL) will host Pennridge on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. while the Bucks (14-2, 10-2) will travel to Hatboro-Horsham on Wednesday.

Another Swezey goal – also with an assist from Eldridge – with one second remaining in regulation gave the Hatters their final margin of victory.
The Hatters fought off 17 Quakertown corners, and coach Laura Swezey, whose team had just three corners, lauded the corner defense of Eldridge, Kelsy Hopkins, Jenna Cutilli, Jane Henry and keeper Emily Braunewell. The Hatters’ goalie turned away seven shots in the shutout.
Swezey also pointed to Swezey and Hopkins as keys in transitioning the ball up the field. Panther keeper Maddie Calder was credited with four saves.
The Hatters (10-4-1, 8-4 SOL) will host Central Bucks West on Wednesday night while the Panthers (7-10, 4-9) will travel to Souderton.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 2, SOUDERTON 1
The Indians played the Titans tough in a game played on Souderton’s turf, rallying to knot the score early in the second half. South’s Mackenzie Harding (Megan Hamilton assist) scored the game winner with 15:25 remaining in regulation.
“It’s been a learning season for us this year, but the girls never give up,” Souderton coach Lauren Whiteside said. “Today was a perfect example of how the girls continue to fight no matter what the score.”
The Titans took a 1-0 lead when Emily Cliggett scored with 9:20 remaining in the first half. They took that lead into halftime, but a goal by Abbey Gabriel (Gabby Sedares assist) four minutes into the second half knotted the score.
“We came out slow and weren’t pleased when they scored a goal,” Whiteside said. “We had several breakaway opportunities, and we finally were able to capitalize on it.
“Gabby dodged the goalie and was left with a hard angle but shot right away, and Abbey was there to make sure it went in. It was a great goal and really lifted our team up. We hung in there with a great team. Although it wasn’t a win in the books, it was a big victory for us.”
The Titans held a decided advantage in shots (23-6) and corners (16-5). The Titans also had a penalty stroke but didn’t convert. Souderton goalie Shelby Landes was credited with 17 saves.
“The team did a great job generating (24) shots with numerous penetrations,” South co-coach Jeff Harding said.
Whiteside was especially pleased with the performance of her defense against a dangerous South squad.
“In our last game, one of our veteran defenders got injured and was not able to play in the game today, but our defense played a great game,” the Indians’ coach said. “In goal, Shelby really stepped it up.
“She turned away several South shots low and in the air and also made a great save on a stroke. Jess Ziegler also had a great game today playing both in the defense and the midfield.”
