UPPER MORELAND 1, WISSAHICKON 1 (OT)
Some ties feel better than others.
For a Golden Bear squad that is looking to build on last year’s improved play, Friday’s tie with the Trojans didn’t feel all that bad.
“Being able to come back – it wasn’t that we were up and they caught us,” UM coach Karen Grossi said. “They were up, and we stayed in it.
“The entire team played well. They really played well together.”
The Trojans took a 1-0 lead into halftime, thanks to a goal by Brianna Miles with an assist from her sister Kara. The Golden Bears evened the score when Delaney Smith connected for a goal in the second half.
“We kind of clicked,” Grossi said. “The girls were cutting to the ball with intensity, and they were really working well together.
“Their passing was on, and they didn’t give up. They were playing a good team, but they were hanging with them the whole time. We had quite a few breakaways – our forward line did a nice job of getting up there. It was a very evenly matched game, back and forth with midfield play.”
Grossi lauded the performances of several players.
“Emily Keene did a great job on defense,” the Golden Bears’ coach said. “Delaney Smith did well, and Melissa Felicetti and (goalie) Allison Felicetti were both very strong on the defensive end, which allowed us to keep them from scoring again.”
Wissahickon coach Lucy Gil acknowledged the strong performances of Ashley Laskowitz, Brianna Miles, Kara Miles and Marie Dickson.
Trojan goalie Claire Tarzia was credited with 13 saves while Upper Moreland’s Allison Felicetti had nine saves.
The Trojans are 1-0-1 in league play (1-1-1 overall), and the Golden Bears are 0-1-1 in the league.

“Today’s game was played in very difficult conditions with the heat, humidity and grass, but we toughed out a win,” PW coach Marianne Paparone said. “We created a lot of scoring chances but have to do a better job of finishing.
“We are definitely making positive strides and are moving in the right direction. The team is getting more and more familiar with each other and more and more confident. It was a good win.”
The Colonials held an advantage in shots (18-2) and corners (14-3).
The Colonials are 2-0 in league play (2-2 overall) while the Vikings are 1-1 in the league (2-1 overall).

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1, HATBORO-HORSHAM 0 (OT)
Sixty minute of regulation could not determine a winner, but it took just a minute of overtime for the Titans to earn the win when Alexa Milanesi connected for a game winner.
The goal was set up on a free hit by Emily Cliggett from the 25.
“Emily took (the free hit) real quick and fed a great ball, a great overlap pass to Lexi, and she just took it right into the circle,” coach Brittany Grzywacz said. “She was wide open, the goalie came out and went down, and she just hit it right past her into the back of the cage. It was beautiful.”
The win in Friday’s showdown gave the Titans a share of the top spot with Central Bucks West as the only unbeaten teams in conference play.
“It was a very even game,” Grzywacz said. “It was back and forth. It was super hot, so the girls were just working really hard the whole game on both teams.
“Both teams were getting corners, both teams were getting shots off. Our shots weren’t on the cage every time, but we were definitely pressing them inside the 25, and they were coming right back at us and pressing us inside the 25. They had a lot of corners. We had a lot of corners. It was a very even game. It was fun.”
Grzywacz acknowledged the strong play in the middle of Cliggett and Corrine Kenney.
“We had a good game from Aliy McDonald,” Grzywacz said. “(Goalie) Sarah Zeszotarski had an outstanding game in goal. She had an awesome game in goal. Both goalies did very well.”
Zeszotarski was credited with eight saves in the shutout. The Hatters held a 7-6 edge in corners.
The Titans have won back-to-back games this week after dropping their opener to Episcopal Academy.
“Especially coming off our loss last week and coming into this week keeping our heads up and just building momentum,” Grzywacz said. “We have another game tomorrow so we just want to keep on going right through with that.”
The Titans (2-1, 2-0 SOL) will travel to Conestoga for a non-league game on Saturday. The Hatters are 1-1 on the young season.

NORTH PENN 3, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 2
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but the Maidens exploded for three goals in the second half and won it when Amanda Lashkevich (Casey O’Donnell assist) found the cage with the game winner with 2:17 remaining in regulation.
East freshman Riley Donnelly scored an unassisted goal just over eight minutes into the game, and that lead held until the intermission. Amanda Laessig (O’Donnell assist) knotted the score with a goal in the opening seconds of the second half, but Maggie Ryder (Donnelly assist) answered with a goal just over three minutes later to put the Patriots back on top 2-1.
With just over eight minutes remaining, O’Donnell (Amber Blackshear assist) connected to knot the score, setting the stage for Lashkevich’s game winner.

The second half was another story entirely as the Bucks – who have outscored their opponents 21-1 in their three wins – exploded for five goals. Cadera Smith turned a corner pass from Kim Hitchcock into a goal at the 20:55. It marked the beginning of a bona fide personal tear by Smith as she went on to score back-to-back goals, completing her second half hat trick on yet another corner shot (Hitchcock assist). Hitchcock scored a pair of unassisted goals to close out the scoring.
Brianna DeAngelis was credited with six saves while earning her second shutout of the season.

WILLIAM TENNENT 3, HARRY S TRUMAN 0
A young Panthers squad picked up its first win of the young season, opening up a 2-0 halftime lead and never looking back.
“Thus far, the girls have worked really hard in the early parts of the season through dedicating themselves to the program,” coach Kaitlyn Rauchut said. “After coming off of two hard losses to talented teams, this young group of girls is using these opportunities as ways to grow individually and as a team.
“Every girl that stepped on the field today has an excellent work ethic and is ready to be challenged each game. From game to game, I have seen vast improvement in our possessional skills, technique and execution.”
Kylie Weiss scored just over 10 minutes into the game, and two minutes later, Niya Rhodes turned a Kendal Brasch pass into a goal that sent the Panthers into halftime with a 2-0 lead. Regan Crognale scored the only goal of the second half.
Rauchut credited the efforts of several players.
“Meghan Izak, a two-year captain, had a standout performance in the midfield,” the Panthers’ coach said. “Meghan’s leadership has helped other players to start stepping up as leaders, sacrificing their egos for the good of the team and capitalizing on opportunity.
“On the defensive end, Kalisi Taufalele stepped up with power and poise. Offensively, team play was much more prevalent, showing improvement and growth from previous games. Kendal Brasch, Niyah Rhodes and Kylie Weiss executed wonderfully on the offensive end.
“I am thrilled with the progress they’ve made within a short period of time and look forward to continuing to positively grow as a team and program throughout the season.
The Panthers (1-2, 1-1 SOL) held a lopsided 26-0 advantage in shots. The Tigers are 0-2 in league play (1-2 overall).

QUAKERTOWN 2, SOUDERTON 1 (OT)
The scoreboard clock frozen at 8:52 provided the perfect backdrop for the giddy celebration after Emma McLaughlin one-timed Megan Thompson’s corner insert pass into a goal, propelling the Panthers to the dramatic overtime win Thursday night.
For a Panther squad in need of a reason to celebrate, it was the perfect ending to a difficult week that saw the team’s three coaches resign two days earlier, adding to a season of turmoil.
“We just wanted to prove to everyone that even with everything going on we could still fight through and win,” McLaughlin said.
On the sidelines directing the Panthers was Quakertown athletic director Sylvia Kalazs, who is filling in while the school looks for a replacement.
“It’s huge for morale,” said Kalazs, who elevated the program to new heights during her stint at the helm in the 1980s and 90s. “Yesterday we played a very strong CB West team (a 6-1 loss). We didn’t have the energy we had tonight.
“We were just adjusting to changes. They played hard yesterday (at West), but we had trouble competing with West. Tonight they had lots of energy. It was the home field and it’s at night. They had a crowd here, and they came ready to play.”
The Panthers dominated play during regulation – holding a 13-4 advantage in shots and a 17-4 edge in shots, but they didn’t have a whole lot to show for their dominance as they found themselves deadlocked 1-1.
The Panthers took a 1-0 lead with an early goal by Becky Gerhart (McLaughlin assist), but the Indians evened the score in the opening minutes of the second half when junior Erin Sayboldt (Gabby Sederas assist) connected.
Neither team scored until McLaughlin delivered the game winner in OT. The win came 24 hours after the Panthers suffered a 6-1 loss at Central Bucks West.
“It was pretty important after a rough loss yesterday, coming back and getting our momentum back for Saturday (a game against Spring-Ford) and the rest of the season,” McLaughlin said. “Last year we were in a lot of overtime games, and we just pulled through as a team, and we just knew we didn’t want to go all this way and not win. This was a close game, and we all fought together.”
The Panthers are 1-1 in league play (2-1 overall).
“Tonight was exactly what they needed,” Kalazs said. “A big loss (on Wednesday) and then if you give up the lead and don’t win, then you start snowballing downhill. This is huge.”
The Indians fell to 0-2 in league play (1-2 overall).
