The Titans survived an injury to starting quarterback Jack Johns, scored 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and escaped with the come-from-behind win in a wild SOL contest Saturday.
Johns – before being sidelined – torched the Patriots for 307 yards and two touchdowns, and when his name was called to step in for Johns, sophomore Josh Consoletti threw for 54 yards and one TD, engineering the game-winning drive.
“It was crazy,” South coach Tom Hetrick said. “The cool thing about it is despite the fact that he’s only a sophomore – the game is definitely not bigger than him.
“That’s a tough position to be thrown in. You’re a sophomore, you’ve never really had legitimate varsity downs, and in a game like that where every snap counted, he’s a gamer. I was very proud of him, and I was proud that everyone else out on the field with him – they didn’t bat an eye, they didn’t bow their heads. They were like, ‘Okay, we have another quarterback. Let’s do this thing,’ so I was proud of him and proud of how they responded to that whole scene.”
The game-winning drive was not without controversy and included a double turnover that – instead of giving the Patriots possession on downs – kept the drive alive for the Titans. Consoletti found Ryan Watson with a key fourth down conversion. Watson had back-to-back seven-yard runs, and Connor DiLissio punched it in from one yard out to give the Titans a lead they would not lose with 8:19 remaining.
“That drive was big,” Hetrick said. “The turnover that we committed - their guy did get up and have possession, but our guy was aggressive and got to the ball and hit him. Then the ball’s loose again and we recover. It was crazy.”
The drive followed an 83-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by East’s Jake Ventresca that put the Patriots on top 28-24. Ventresca’s big play came after Johns hooked up with Collin Dompert for a 65-yard touchdown pass.
“That was a killer because once we scored that touchdown at the beginning of the third quarter, we’re like, ‘Okay, let’s settle in, we’ll trust the defense and see what happens,’” Hetrick said. “The next thing you know they’re taking it (65) yards.
“It’s one of those things where it’s definitely a whirlwind of emotions, but you have to be able to say, ‘Okay, that happened’ and move on. We were able to do that. I was proud of them.”
The Titans sealed the Patriots’ fate when Brady Prezelski capped a stellar performance by hauling in a 49-yard touchdown pass from Consoletti.
For the game, Prezelski had four receptions for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
“Brady Prezelski came out of nowhere today,” Hetrick said. “He had a couple of big plays. A couple of those big hitters were to him, and Jack put the ball in some good spots, but Brady did a nice job.
“Their front six is pretty stout, and their safeties play pretty aggressively downhill. If you hand the ball off, you’re basically dealing with nine people in the box. We knew that and we knew we had to be able to take some shots and play action and things, and luckily, we were able to do that.
“From our defensive perspective, they got us with a couple of trick plays, and they got us with a fade in the back of the end zone. Kudos to them for executing those.”
The Titans’ coach went on to credit Noah Collachi for anchoring the defense.
“Noah had a real good effort, not only physically, but he managed to take a leadership role when there was some adversity to deal with and rally the guys,” Hetrick said. “He made some big plays and had the sack at the end of the game, which got us the ball back, and we were able to control the ball from there.”
East quarterback Evan O’Donnell threw for 112 yards and a touchdown. He ran for another. Chris Lochetta was his favorite target with six catches for 110 yards. Lochetta also connected with Logan Pettigrew for a 16-yard touchdown on a gadget play in the first half.
Central Bucks South (4-0, 1-0 SOL) will host Souderton next Saturday at noon, and Central Bucks East (1-3, 0-1) will travel to William Tennent next Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 48, VALLEY FORGE MILITARY ACADEMY 28
Junior quarterback Max Perry turned in another stellar outing for the Spartans, exploding for 367 yards and six touchdowns. For good measure, he also had 48 yards on the ground.
Perry capped a flawless first drive with a 25-yard touchdown strike to senior Troy Williams. Junior wideout Wilson Krewson hauled in a pair of touchdowns – one of those a 60-yard bomb. Senior Brian Maienshein scored from 15 yards out on a back slant from Perry. Senior Samari Savoy caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from the junior QB, and the final TD of the day was a dime to senior Jameer Page, whose yards after the catch made it a 65-yard masterpiece.
On the defensive side of the ball, Paul Asman and Garrison Hyde each recorded a sack.
The Spartans, who led 14-0 after one quarter, took a 28-15 lead into halftime and extended that to 35-15 after three quarters.
Springfield Township (2-2) will travel to Bristol on Thursday, Sept. 28, for a 7 p.m. contest.
