CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 52, SOUDERTON 44
The Patriots used a balanced offensive attack and stifling defense to notch a big win over the visiting Indians.
“They were the better team today,” Souderton coach Lynn Carroll said. “Their kids played better, and I think Liz (Potash) did a better job than I did.
“They played really well. They executed from the beginning to end and pretty much had momentum the whole game. We cut it to six and had multiple opportunities to score, but they made plays. Karoline White was really, really good, and (Courtney) Webster played well. I give them credit. They deserved to win, and they did.”
The Patriots received standout performances from numerous players. Webster had 15 points – 12 in the first half - and 11 rebounds. White had an impressive double-double at point guard with 12 points and 12 assists. Katelyn Miller added 11 points, which included three three-pointers. Lindsay Nier and Emily Sebesky both had six points.
“It was a really good team effort,” Potash said. “Karoline finished all her shots. We have been working so hard at practice about finishing those layups because that’s kind of been a thing for us this year.
“I can think of maybe two layups we missed today. They were really finishing everything.”

The Patriots established the early tone for the game, opening up a 13-7 lead at the end of one quarter and then battling the Indians to a draw in the second quarter. They took a 29-23 lead into halftime and upped that lead to 38-29 at the end of three quarters.
“We ended up giving up 44 points, and we try to keep teams under 40, but these girls defend,” Potash said. “We had a defensive game plan, and the girls executed it perfectly. We couldn’t be more proud of their effort.
“It did help that we were able to hit some outside shots today. Our outside shots have been a little bit off, so we were able to put those two things together, and it was a good combination.”
Potash went on to credit Emily Sebesky for her defensive effort against Souderton senior Bianca Picard, who finished with 11 points but had just three after the intermission.
“Emily really stepped up in the second half and shut her down,” Potash said. “She’s been playing really good defense for us all year, but that was huge for us today.
“She (Picard) is such a good player.”
Allison Gallagher led the Indians with 18 points. Katie O’Connor had six.
The win evened the Patriots league mark at 2-2 (4-3 overall) and was their third win in a row after a 1-3 start.
“We knew this was a big game coming into it,” Potash said. “Souderton is a very good team. They didn’t have many losses coming in.
“Like we told the girls – we were close with CB West, we were close with North Penn, and it was nice to be able to get the win today. We’re proud of the girls’ effort. They really stepped up and played well today.”
Souderton saw its record drop to 2-2 in league play (7-3 overall).

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 51, UPPER MERION 41
The Colonials survived a slow start to defeat the Vikings and remain perfect on the season, upping their record to 4-0 in league play (8-0 overall).
Upper Merion took a 13-8 lead into the second quarter, and with the game tied at 19-19, senior Rachel Konowal buried a three-pointer in the final seconds of the opening half, sending the Vikings into halftime with a 22-19 lead. They never trailed the rest of the way, opening up a 38-30 lead at the end of three quarters.
Coach Dan Dougherty credited Konowal, who - despite giving up more than five inches – turned in a standout defensive performance on UM standout Regie Robinson. After scoring 12 first half points, Robinson had just four points in the second half.
Konowal finished with seven points. Asia Baker and Alynna Williams led the Colonials offensively. Baker finished with a game-high 20 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists, three blocked shots and a steal. Williams added 17 points.
According to Dougherty, Baker’s two assists to Cara Sweeney, who finished with four points, were crucial in extending PW’s lead in the second half.
The Vikings saw their record drop to 1-3 in league play (4-5 overall).

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 54, PENNSBURY 35
For the first time since their season-opening tournament at Springfield-Delco, the Titans had the entire starting lineup in place. They wasted little time seizing control of the game, opening up a 10-5 lead at the end of one quarter and stretching that to 26-16 by halftime. The Falcons never threatened the rest of the way.
“I’m pleased with the overall effort,” coach Beth Mattern said. “We struggled to finish at times from the floor, but they kept at it.
“I was really pleased with the overall aggressiveness they showed.”
Sophomore Jordan Vitelli led the Titans with 17 points, which included three three-pointers. Senior center Lauren Mosher added 14 points, and Alysha Lofton was the third Titan to finish in double figures with 10 points.
A key to the Titans’ strong performance was their fullcourt pressure.
“We definitely pick our spots,” Mattern said. “We like to press, we like to get out and try to be an aggressive team when we can.
“Today – a Saturday after a snow day – we felt we wanted to get in the groove of the game a little bit.”
The Titans’ pressure created problems for the Falcons from the outset.
“I think we go into each game knowing exactly what we need to do, and we knew they had a really good point guard, and we held her to nine points,” senior Lauren Mosher said. “When our press is working, it works really well.
“We graduated a lot of players from last year’s team, and we didn’t have Alysha (Lofton) last year (because of injury), but I still think we have good chemistry, and that’s really important.”
For the Falcons, Sajanna Bethea and Kaitlin Kelly led the way with nine points each. Maggie Kane added six points.
While the Falcons are 4-4 on the season, the Titans improved to 7-2.
