SOL Girls' Basketball Wrap (12-11-17)

Bensalem & PW were winners in SOL girls’ basketball action Monday. Check out the recaps.

BENSALEM 52, UPPER DARBY 50 (OT)
The Owls displayed a flare for the dramatic, breaking a 50-50 tie when sophomore Haley Keenan scored the winning layup with less than four seconds remaining in overtime. The game winner was set up by a Chloe Woolens steal.
“We missed a foul shot, and they got the ball. We pressed them and Chloe got a steal,” coach Don Bogan said. “It was a great win for the Bensalem team.
“We’re getting better. The girls are working harder, and I have more depth on my team this year than I did last year, so we’re getting there. I play six sophomores. They don’t have the experience, but they work hard and the experience is going to come.”
Keenan led the Owls with 21 points while Alayna McSeed added 15.
The Owls – who trailed by as many as 10 points – found themselves on the short end of a 26-19 score at halftime. They trimmed that deficit to 34-33 heading into the final quarter when they knotted the score, setting the stage for overtime.
“We were in foul trouble the whole night,” Bogan said. “We were down by four with less than a minute to go (in regulation).
“We got up by seven in overtime, and then one of our girls fouled out. We made a couple of bad passes, but we pulled it out in the end. The girls were really excited. They know they didn’t play well, but you know what - at the end of the day, a win’s a win.”
