SOL Girls' Volleyball Wrap (10-17-16)

National Conference

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, PENNSBURY 1 (25-14, 22-25, 25-10, 25-16)
After finishing second to Pennsbury in each of the last two years, the Indians got over that final hurdle, earning a win over the Falcons to clinch sole possession of the National Conference title.
“I’m so proud of our seniors who played such great volleyball,” coach Mike Adams said. “I am most proud of how amazing these girls are off the court.
“Winning the league is a nice memory they will all have and be able to remember it every time they see their team listed on the banner in the gym for years to come.”
Adams went on to thank Pennsbury coach Mike Falter for allowing one of North’s injured players to be the first server in her Senior Night match after tearing her ACL and missing the entire senior year.
“So proud of Danae and her team spirit all season long,” the Indians’ coach said. “Also special thanks to assistant coach Dan, who is the go-to person for advice and suggestions.”
Senior Morgan Collito had a big night for the Indians, finishing with 12 kills and 10 digs. Senior Birdie Ligos had a monster night, sparking the defense with 21 digs to go along with eight kills and one ace. Mackenzie Tinner (seven kills, four blocks) and Hadley Grundman (seven kills, one ace, one dig, one block) also came up big at the net. Setters Johanna Batterton (14 assists, nine digs, one kill, five aces) and Sarah Caola (15 assists, seven digs, two aces) orchestrated the offense. Maddy Moore (seven digs, one kill, one ace, three assists) and Carrie Kuiken (six digs, two aces) also contributed defensively. Dana Bandurick added two kills and two blocks, and Kalein Mealey chipped in with two digs, one kill and one block.
For the Falcons, Julia Vreeswyk led the way with 10 kills, two aces and nine digs while Sydney Buell added seven kills, 11 assists, nine digs and one block. Kiley Buckman contributed one kill, two aces, nine assists and nine digs, and Cheyenne Agrio had four kills and a team-high 11 digs. Heather Linker added 10 digs and three aces while Brooke Burns contributed three kills and four digs, and Kayla Haddad added three kills.
Rock North is the sixth seed in the latest district power rankings, and Pennsbury is seeded 12th.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, WILLIAM TENNENT 0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-8)
The Patriots found themselves clinging to the 24th and final district playoff spot in the power rankings released on Monday, and they solidified their hold on that position with a sweep of the Panthers. In the process, they certainly made a believer out of Tennent coach Brian Bassler.
“We ran into a buzz saw,” the Panthers’ coach said. “They came out and really took it to us with tough serving and strong defense.
“It was a tough night for us, and I give them a lot of credit. We just never got into a rhythm. In my opinion, they are 100 percent a playoff team.”
Coach Kerri Rabberman had nothing but good things to say about her team’s performance.
“I am so impressed with my team tonight,” she said. “Everything was connecting, and they played a great team game.
“This was an amazing Senior Night. I am so proud of my seniors and the roles that all of them have had this season. This was truly for them. My girls are just continuing to work and fight with every opportunity that they get. I am so proud of them tonight.”
Caitlin Kiernan had three digs and one ace. Devon Hall had a strong serving game with four aces to go along with seven kills, one block and four digs. Morgan Beakley finished with 12 digs, three assists and three aces. Setter Emily Lunny had 17 assists, three aces and six digs. Jenn Krzeminski had a big night at the net with nine kills, six blocks, three aces and four digs. Hanna Walentukonis had three kills and Jess Guillen, four kills. Ysabelle Minschwaner finished with five digs and one kill, and Gina Feliz also contributed in the front row.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 1 (20-25, 26-24, 25-18, 25-18)
The Golden Hawks extended the Bucks to four games in the hard-fought match. After the Hawks won the opening set, they went on top 24-20 in the second set, but Kayla King served for six straight points to close out the set. Included in that remarkable run were a King service ace as well as two kills from Katie Hudson. Armed with momentum after their gutsy come-from-behind win, the Bucks went on to win games three and four.
Hudson (27 kills, 17 digs, one ace, one block) collected 16 of her 27 kills in the final two sets, and King (35 assists, 18 digs, four aces, four kills) had three of her four aces in the final two sets. West also was strong defensively, getting 98 total digs for the match. They were led by Kailey Prall (22 digs, two aces) and Mackenzie Brooks (21 digs, four kills, two aces, two assists). April Neeld (eight kills, two digs) and Grace Manganelli (16 digs, one kill) also contributed.
For the Golden Hawks, Hannah Sullivan had a big night at the net, contributing 10 kills and 11 blocks. Celina Varian added eight kills and 24 digs, and setter Hannah Devlin had 29 assists and 19 digs. Bria DeSaro had 46 digs to lead the defense.
Central Bucks West was 14th and CR South was 26th in the latest district power rankings.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, BENSALEM 0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-19)
The Titans rolled to a sweep of the Owls but find themselves three spots out of the district tournament at number 27 in the latest rankings.
Senior Megan Manderson led the Titans at the net with 11 kills, eight digs and one ace. Senior libero Morgan McCrory had 30 digs, one ace and one kill. Alyssa Dallmer added five kills and three digs. Setter Kelly Danyluk had 21 assists and four digs, and freshman Allie Burke had three kills and one ace.
"We played a very solid game tonight and we were able to get some different girls in the line up,” coach Kurt Godfrey said. “Allie Burke suited up for varsity tonight and was able to make a contribution with three kills and a bunch of clutch serves for us.  She's a freshman and it was her first varsity match.  I think she got one of the biggest cheers of the season when she checked into the game tonight. 
“Our captains, Megan Manderson and Morgan McCrory, continued to be absolutely incredible for us and every single girl who played tonight made a contribution.  It was a nice all around team victory."

Continental Conference

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 3, NORTH PENN 0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-8)
The Colonials – seeded third in the latest district power rankings - clinched at least a share of the conference title with their sweep of the Knights.
Danielle Rippert (nine kills, 11 digs), Lauren Coscia (six kills, two blocks) and Lily Acquaviva (eight kills, nine digs) led the Colonials at the net. Setter Bridget McTamney contributed 21 assists, seven digs and two aces.

HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, ABINGTON 0
For the Ghosts, setter Anna Bantner had 23 assists, two kills and four digs. Grace Whitney (eight kills, three blocks, two digs), Hannah Dalton (six kills, three blocks, seven digs, one assist), Kaylee Goodson (seven kills, three digs) and Kaley Ehnow (four kills, one block) all contributed at the net. Fabi Gonzalez led the defense with 11 digs.

SOUDERTON 3, PENNRIDGE 0 (25-13, 25-11, 28-26)
The visiting Indians – 17th in the latest district rankings – rolled to a sweep of the Rams. Setter Lauren Hamilton handed out 37 assists. Talia Watson contributed nine digs and three aces. Miranda Baronett led the Indians with 10 kills and six digs while Maria Iervolino added seven kills and Hannah Fairweather, six kills. Tori Reiner chipped in five kills while Haley Novak (three kills, six digs), Monica Miller (three kills, nine digs) and Molly McCarthy (three kills) also contributed. Bella Mazzeo (three aces) and Becca Godshall (two aces) were part of a strong Souderton service game.
For the Rams, Steph Judkins had another big night with 15 kills and two aces. Caitlin Saalfrank led the defense with 18 digs, and setter Kara Allelunas had 15 assists and one ace.
