PENNSBURY 3, COUNCIL ROCK 2 (20-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-12, 17-15)
The Golden Hawks extended the Falcons to five games, but the Falcons gutted out the win.
“We struggled in the first three games with hitting consistency,” said coach Michael Falter, whose team had close to 40 hitting errors in the five-game match. “You’ll rarely win committing that many errors, but I give the girls credit – they found a way to win."
“We were actually down 14-9 in the fifth game and put together a run to tie it up at 14 and then eventually closed it out at 17. The team is struggling with confidence issues in certain aspects of our game this week, and I really believe it had a negative impact in all areas. However, they showed great mental toughness when it mattered in the end.”
Cara Reilly had a monster game at the net, delivering 20 kills to go along with 13 digs. Taylor McCartney added 14 kills and 17 digs while Lauren Bransfield had eight kills and three solo blocks. Brandi Steiner had seven kills. Defensively, the Falcons were led by Ava Patterson’s 21-dig effort. She also had four kills and six service aces. Kelsey Ongradi added 14 digs while Dagny Gould had 17 digs.
Despite the outcome, Rock South coach Kelly Korn had no complaints about her team's performance.
"South has truly come a long way this season," she said. "The girls have worked together to figure out their strengths and weaknesses as a team. They now see what they are capable of doing when they work hard and play smart."
For the Golden Hawks, senior outside hitter Katie Quinn had 18 digs, eight kills and four aces while senior libero Lexie Kremp had 29 digs, one ace and one kill.
