SOL Girls' Volleyball Wrap (10-8-13)

Check out the results for SOL girls’ volleyball teams in action recently.

Norristown High School will be hosting its ‘White Out’ on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 5 p.m., when the Eagles will take on Perkiomen Valley in a non-league contest. All proceeds from the evening will be donated to the Lung Cancer Center at Chestnut Hill Hospital.

WILLIAM TENNENT 3, NESHAMINY 0 (25-11, 25-8, 25-16)
The Panthers rolled to their 14th straight win in match play, sweeping the Redskins on Tuesday.
“The entire team played well,” Tennent coach Brian Bassler said. “We served well, hit smart and played good defense.
“Neshaminy is young and much improved. Kate is doing a nice job, and their girls are playing hard and talking.”
For the Redskins, Molly MacDonald had 12 digs, Danielle Catapano added 11 digs and Gabby Mannino had 10. Mackenzie Maher led the ‘Skins at the net with three blocks and three kills.
“Our defense was strong, but we couldn’t put the ball away,” coach Kate Livingstone said.

PENNSBURY 3, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-23)
Cara Reilly led a potent Falcon attack, delivering 16 kills to go along with seven digs. Ava Patterson added eight kills while Brandi Steiner and Taylor McCartney each had five. McCartney had a team-high nine digs. Patterson added seven digs, and Kelsey Ongradi had six. Dagny Gould and Kate Foley each had a pair of service aces.
“The girls played consistent volleyball tonight,” coach Michael Falter said. “We got back to basics this week at practice and revisited certain aspects of our game that have been lacking recently.
“Hopefully, we can use this win and the lessons we learned last week as a springboard to the upcoming playoffs. I’m very proud of the team and the disciplined volleyball they played.”

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, BENSALEM 0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-16)
Senior defensive specialist Lauren Foisy, according to coach Kelly Korn, led the Hawks with great passing against a much improved Bensalem team.

PENNRIDGE 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST (25-21, 25-22, 27-25)
The Lady Rams came up with a big win on Tuesday, sweeping the Bucks. Setter Meghan Keefe had 25 assists. Steph Judkins had a big night at the net with 14 kills and two aces. Victoria Jones added 11 kills. Lauren Drugotch had seven blocks and seven kills. Kara Weaver led the defense with 16 digs.

QUAKERTOWN 3, NORTH PENN 0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-13)
Jen Sterner handed out 16 assists in the Panthers sweep of the Maidens. She also had four kills, six digs and one ace. Amanda Pursel had a team high 11 kills while Erick Schmidlechner had six kills. Defensively, the Panthers were led by Autumn Bolton with 13 digs to go along with one ace. Liana Buonanno Taylor added 11 digs and two aces, and Lindsay Beck had 10 digs and four aces.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, SOUDERTON 0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-18)
Bridget Terrel had a monster serving game, contributing 11 aces. Terrel also had five digs and five kills. Natalie Arm also had five kills while Rachel Clow added four and Hannah LaMond, Hanna Lunak, Kally Guillen and Lindsay McIntosh each added three. Lauren Helveston added five aces and two digs. Krista Halveston also had five digs while Erin Lane had four.
For the Indians, Savannah Bostwick led the defense with nine digs and two aces. Jess Overpeck and Alycia Beebe both had three kills, and Lindsay Martin had six digs.

HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, UPPER DUBLIN 1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-14)
Junior Sam Jones had a huge night at the net, contributing 21 kills. Sophomore Cassidy Quattro added 11 kills. Junior Alexa Kennedy and sophomore Jaimee Stoczko added six kills. The Hatters had seven team blocks and 14 team aces. Jones and Stoczko contributed four apiece. Seniors Katie McKay dished out 20 assists.

ABINGTON 3, WISSAHICKON 0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-9)
Carley Cooper had a big night for the Ghosts, contributing eight kills, nine digs and four aces. Claire Gassman added five kills, one block, six aces and four digs, and sophomore setter Emma Garg had 13 assists and four aces. Sophomore Leah Simmons chipped in with three kills and three blocks, and sophomore Jamie Kidd added nine digs and four aces.

UPPER MERION 3, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-12)
The Vikings upped their conference mark to 11-0 after Tuesday's win. They are 15-0 overall. Setter Ashley Shannon had 23 assists and 12 digs while Melanie Ingram and Emily Shannon had 12 and 10 kills respectively. Niki Carpenter and Eryn Brady continue to domate at the net, according to coach Tony Funsten. Kailyn McNamee added 18 digs to lead the defense.
Keelin McEleney had a big night defensively for the Colonials, contributing 16 digs. Teammates Olivia Carbo, Katie Kennedy and Jocelyn Porrino had four each. Emily Houck led the attack with six kills, and Rachel Isaackman and Cara Sweeney had five each.

Monday, Oct. 7
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-23)
The Bucks received big performances from several players. Alicia West led the way with 10 kills nine digs and one ace, and Candace Rupert had six kills, three blocks and one ace. Setter Kelly McKinstry had 12 assists, 11 digs and one kill, and Kailey Prall led the Bucks defensively with 20 digs and one ace.

CHELTENHAM 3, HARRY S TRUMAN 1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-14)
The Lady Panthers dropped the first set of Tuesday’s match but rallied to win the next three. Kelly Graham led the Panthers with three aces, 14 kills and 14 digs.

QUAKERTOWN 3, WISSAHICKON 1 (25-16, 16-25, 25-12, 25-13)
Amanda Pursel had a huge night for the Panthers, delivering 17 kills to go along with six digs. Kerry Vanyo had 25 assists and eight aces while Liana Buonanno Taylor had eight digs and seven aces.

Saturday, Oct. 5
WILLIAM TENNENT 3, UPPER DUBLIN 0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-16)
WILLIAM TENNENT 3, ST BASIL 0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-21)
The Panthers swept Saturday’s tri-match against Upper Dublin and St. Basil. In Tennent’s sweep of the Flying Cardinals, Jaime Bonner had 12 kills while Chelsea Gallagher had six kills and five aces. Amber Wood had four blocks, and sophomore setter Alex Koppany had 25 assists.
In the win over St. Basil, Bonner had 14 kills. Amber Wood and Ashley Weidman both had five blocks.

Friday, Oct. 4
UPPER MERION 3, CARDINAL O’HARA 0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-18)
The Vikings upped their record to 14-0 after their impressive win over O’Hara.
“Our defense and passing of serve was excellent against a very good team,” coach Tony Funsten said. “Our middles were exceptional as Eryn Brady had a career high nine kills, and Niki Carpenter had a career high five block kills.
