SOL Girls' Volleyball Wrap (8-29-14)

SOUDERTON 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 1 (25-17, 17-25, 25-20, 25-18)
The Indians opened their season with an impressive win, downing the visiting Golden Hawks.
Setter Cori Watson was credited with 34 assists and four aces. The Indians received big performances at the net from Megan Freed (eight kills, four blocks, six digs, two aces), Monica Miller (nine kills, four digs), Melissa Gould (seven kills), Megan Pirtle (six kills) and Hannah Fairweather (three kills, three blocks). Savannah Bostwick led the defense with 18 digs, and Talia Watson had five service aces for an Indians squad that won just one match last season.

QUAKERTOWN 3, CHELTENHAM 0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-15)
Haley Sheehan had nine kills and five digs while Amanda Pursel had seven kills to lead the Panthers at the net in their season opener. Jen Sterner (12 assists, five kills, three aces) and Kerry Vanyo (14 assists, three aces) split setting duties. Katelyn Spieker had five kills, two blocks and three aces while Lindsay Beck led the defense with nine digs.
The Panthers return to action next Thursday when they travel to Central Bucks West.

ABINGTON 3, LITTLE FLOWER 0
The Ghosts used a balanced attack to earn a win in their season opener.
Setter Carley Cooper led the team with 16 assists and also had three digs, one block, three kills and two aces. It was a big day for the duo of Leah Simmons and Claire Gassman. Simmons finished the day with nine kills, six aces and one dig, and Gassman had seven kills, five aces, five digs and one block. Jamie Kidd had five digs, three aces and three assists.

UPPER DUBLIN 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-20)
The Flying Cardinals rolled to a sweep of the visiting Bucks. Setter Bryn Stek was credited with 25 assists with Taylor Stek, who finished with 13 kills and three aces, on the receiving end of many of those sets. Melanie Phifer had seven kills, seven aces and five digs.
