SOL Girls' Volleyball Wrap (9-12-16)

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 3, UPPER DUBLIN 0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-21)
The Colonials earned a sweep of the defending American Conference champion Flying Cardinals. Emilee Waltz (16 kills, 10 digs) and Bridget McTamney (21 assists, 12 digs) led the way for PW.
For the Flying Cardinals, setter Bryn Stek had 22 assists, nine digs and one ace. Jenny McAneney had a big night, finishing with 17 kills, 13 digs and one ace. Josie Barrett led the defense with 16 digs and two assists, and Jackie McMenamin added 12 digs. Maggie Weglos contributed six kills and five digs.
“PW is a well-rounded team who is very strong defensively,” UD coach Paul Choi said.

WILLIAM TENNENT 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2
The Panthers gutted out another five-set win, rallying to win the fifth set 15-8 after the Golden Hawks – who trailed 2-0 – came back to even the match at two sets each.
“We had 37 kills as a team spread out over seven girls, and that was really good to see,” Tennent coach Brian Bassler said.
Nicole Long led a balanced attack with nine kills. Kelly Scipione served 26 times throughout the match.
“She was really big for us,” Bassler said. “She kept the ball in and the pressure on and gave us a chance to win some rallies and score a lot of points on her service runs.”
Setter Ariel Goldberg had 19 assists, but other players stepped up as well.
“Then there are just things you don’t see in stats,” Bassler said. “Laura Cochrane seems to always be in the right place, and as a team, we never give up on a ball. I am really proud of the girls for keeping their cool and staying mentally tough.”
For the Golden Hawks, Celina Varian had 10 kills and four aces, Hannah Sullivan added nine kills and Natalie Kazokas had seven kills. Setter Hannah Devlin had 16 assists.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1 (25-20, 25-15, 22-25, 25-19)
The Indians opened up a 2-0 lead, but the Bucks didn’t go down quietly, rallying to win the third set before the Indians closed it out.
“It was an exciting match with tons of long rallies,” Rock North coach Mike Adams said. “CB West played great defense and stayed in a lot of points, making for many great athletic plays by both teams. (It was) tons of fun for the fans to watch.”
Senior outside hitter Morgan Collito led the Indians with 14 kills, two aces and seven digs. Birdie Ligos led the defense with 17 digs to go along with nine kills, three aces and two blocks in a huge all-around effort. Also coming up big at the net were junior opposite Kalein Mealey (eight kills, two digs, one block) and sophomore opposite Dana Bandurick (nine kills, five blocks, two digs). Junior libero Grace Schweizer had 13 digs and one ace while setters Sarah Caola and Johanna Batterton combined for 39 assists and two aces each. Caola also had 17 digs. Junior Mackenzie Tinner (six kills, six blocks, three digs, five aces) and senior middle Hadley Grundman (three kills, one dig, two blocks) also made important contributions.
For the Bucks, Katie Hudson had a big night at the net, finishing with 20 kills and five digs. Setter Kayla King had 29 assists and 24 digs as well as three aces. Kailey Prall led the defense with 33 digs and two aces. April Neeld added 20 digs and four kills, and Grace Mangenelli added 12 digs and three aces.

SOUDERTON 3, ABINGTON 1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-21)
The Indians upped their record to 3-0 in SOL play with a win over the Ghosts. Setter Lauren Hamilton had 22 assists while Talia Watson had 21 digs and three aces. Tori Reiner (seven kills, two blocks), Miranda Baronett (five kills, 12 digs, three aces), Monica Miller (five kills, nine digs), Hannah Fairwether (five kills), Maria Iervolino (four kills, 15 digs, two blocks) and Bella Mazzeo (two aces, three digs) also made important contributions to a balanced Indian effort.
For the Ghosts, setter Anna Bantner had 26 assists, 10 digs and two aces. Hannah Dalton (three kills, 11 digs, four aces) and Grace Whitney (five kills, 12 digs, two blocks) also came up big defensively. Kaylee Goodson (eight kills, 16 digs) had a big night while Kaylee Ehnow made important contributions at the net with eight kills and five blocks. Aislin Resurrecion added four kills and seven digs.

HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, WISSAHICKON 0 (25-6, 25-12, 25-16)
The Hatters upped their record to 5-0 on the season with a sweep of the Trojans. Holly Owen had four kills on five attempts to go along with two aces. Katerina Yankanich added five kills, six aces and six digs. Victoria Rapak had three kills on four attacks. Allison Laucella led a strong Hatter service game with 12 aces to go along with 10 digs and three kills. Maddie Kallmeyer added three aces.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, NESHAMINY 0 (25-12, 26-24, 25-19)
Setters Anna Ritter (11 assists) and Emily Lunny (nine assists) combined for 20 assists. Jenn Krzeminski led the Patriots with 14 kills and 10 aces. Morgan Beakley had seven digs and two aces while Devon Hall had six kills, four digs and three aces and Jess Guillen had six kills.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, HARRY S TRUMAN 0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-12)
Senior outside hitter Megan Manderson led the Titans with 15 kills, four aces and three assists. Senior libero Morgan McCrory had 21 digs and five aces, and setter Erica Werner had 19 assists and five aces. While setter Kelly Danyluk added nine assists and five aces.
Other significant contributors for South were senior opposite Tara Korch (two aces, three kills), senior outside hitter Kayla Dougherty (one ace, three kills, four digs) and senior middle Jessica Shelton (one ace, two kills).
“We really came together as a team after a disappointing first week of play,” coach Kurt Godfrey said. “We were able to get everyone some playing time tonight and work on our communication. Just a good solid win to start the week.”

PENNRIDGE 3, NORTH PENN 1 (25-18, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19)
