SOL Girls' Volleyball Wrap (9-14-18)

Check out the recaps for SOL girls’ volleyball teams in action Friday.

SOL National Conference

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2 (11-25, 22-25, 25-9, 25-18, 15-11)
Fresh off a win over archrival Council Rock North, the Golden Hawks are playing with a lot of confidence. That confidence was on display when – after dropping their first two sets to the Bucks – they rallied to win the next three in convincing fashion.
“This was one of the best volleyball matches I have ever experienced,” coach John Wright said. “We were down 0-2 in their gym, and things did not look good.
“The team came together and played the best volleyball of the year.”
South was led by senior libero Bria DeSaro, who recorded a career-high 45 digs. Celina Varian had 11 kills, including the 300th of her career. Junior middles Lauren Dougherty and Katie Marsh “ruled the net,” according to Wright. Dougherty had five kills and nine blocks, and Marsh had two kills and four blocks. Junior outside Ariana Ranieri had five kills, five aces and 10 digs.

PENNSBURY 3, HARRY S TRUMAN 0 (25-7, 25-10, 25-15)
The Falcons used a team effort in their sweep of the Tigers.
Katie Pieslak (four kills, two ace, one dig) and Izzy Marinelli (four kills, three aces) led a balanced attack. Elley Torres (three kills, one dig) and Ashley Parry (three kills, three aces, five digs) also contributed. Abbie Drewes led a strong service game with five aces, and Kathryn Croteau added four service aces. Drewes and Annie Meehan each had three digs.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1 (25-23, 26-24, 24-26, 25-16)
The Indians notched a hard-earned win over the Titans.
Mary Baniewiz had another big night at the net, finishing with a team-high 11 kills to go along with three aces and five digs. Kylie Tinner added eight kills, two aces and four digs, and Abby Jones had five kills. Adding four kills each were Ashleigh Adams, Jenna Hron and Cora Lake. Adams also had two aces and 10 digs while Lake had one dig. Jill Schweitzer led the Indians defensively with 18 digs and a team-high six aces. Sydney White had seven digs.

WILLIAM TENNENT 3, NESHAMINY 1 (25-22, 14-25, 25-14, 25-22)
The Panthers got in the win column with a four-set win over the Redskins.
Riley Moran led the Panthers up front with seven kills. The Panthers recorded 14 service aces. Mackenzie Clee led the way with four. Chiara Ciccone had 19 digs, and setter Julia Richard had 11 assists.
“This was a much-needed win for us,” coach Brian Bassler said. “Number 20 on Neshaminy gave us all sorts of trouble, and it was a hard-fought match.
“Our girls really responded every time they made a run at us with the exception of the second set. With such a young team, win number one was so important mentally for us. That is over and done with now, so hopefully, the girls can focus on playing hard and getting better as a group with less pressure of getting that first ‘W.’”

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 3, NORTH PENN 1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-16)

Aja Smith also had 16 digs to go along with seven kills and three aces. Sophie Repholz contributed four aces and six assists.
