SOL Girls' Volleyball Wrap (9-16/17-16)

UPPER MERION 3, UPPER DUBLIN 1 (32-30, 25-18, 17-25, 25-20)
In a match featuring last year’s SOL American Conference co-champions, it was the Vikings – now members of the PAC-10 – earning a hard fought 3-1 win over the visiting Cardinals.
“A tough loss against a program that is always strong every year,” coach Paul Choi said. “The girls battled for every point and were able to find success early on in the third set but were short coming in the fourth set.
“It was a marathon battle in the first set, going back and forth. I am very proud of the way the girls fought for each other on the court today.”
Setter Bryn Stek had a busy day – she not only was credited with 43 assists but also had a team-high 32 digs to go along with three aces and four kills. Jenny McAneney (18 kills, 20 digs, two aces) and Maggie Weglos (14 kills, 22 digs, three aces, one assist) also turned in monster performances. Coming up big defensively were Josie Barrett (25 digs, five assists, one ace) and Sarah Sharp (15 digs). Also contributing were Catie Yoast (three kills, three digs), Kara Grebe (three kills), Layne Morgan (six kills, one block) and Shannon Yoast (one ace, one kill, two digs).

MOUNT ST. JOSEPH ACADEMY 3, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 0 (25-15, 25-20, 26-24)
The Magic swept the Indians in a tri-match on Saturday, but coach Mike Adams was pleased with his team’s effort.
“We played a really good team that played consistent, which allowed us to grow as a team and gave us things to work on in the future to prepare for the (postseason),” the Indians’ coach said.
The Indians received contributions from Morgan Collito (seven kills, one ace, seven digs, one block), Dana Bandurick (six kills, one block), Hadley Grundman (five kills, one ace, four blocks, two digs), Birdie Ligos (five kills, 10 digs), Alyssa Coates (four kills, two digs), Kalein Mealey (three kills, one dig, one block), Maddy Moore (16 digs), Grace Schweizer (15 digs), Sarah Caola (14 assists, two aces, four digs) and Johanna Batterton 911 assist, two aces, our digs.)

DOWNINGTOWN EAST 3, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-12)
In the second set of Saturday’s tri-match, the Indians were swept by the Cougars. Morgan Collito led the Indians at the net with seven kills, one ace and three digs. Maddy Moore led the Indians defensively with 16 digs and one ace. Setters Sarah Caola (10 assists, one kill, three digs) and Johanna Batterton (six assists, two aces, two digs) combined for 16 aces. Dana Bandurick (two kills, one block), Hadley Grundman (three kills, one dig), Birdie Ligos (two kills, three digs, two aces), Alyssa Coates (one kill, two digs) and Kalein Mealey (two kills, two digs) also contributed.

Friday, Sept. 16

ABINGTON 3, CHELTENHAM 0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-11)
Setter Anna Bantner handed out nine assists and had a team-high seven aces in the Ghosts’ sweep of the Lady Panthers. Hannah Dalton (four kills, four aces, three blocks), Grace Whitney (two kills, two blocks, three digs), Kaylee Goodson (four kills, two digs), Kaylee Ehnow (four kills, two blocks) and Aislin Resurrecion (five kills, five aces) all contributed to a balanced Ghost attack.  Vasillia Fox added seven assists.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-16)
Senior outside hitter Morgan Collito had a big night at the net, contributing 12 kills, one ace, four digs and two blocks.
“Morgan was clearly wanting to make a statement against CRS her senior year with 12 kills, hitting .588 and only playing about a set and a half,” coach Mike Adams said. “CRS was missing a few starters and still played tough.
“Both teams are already looking forward to our next matchup for our Dig Pink match on Oct. 10.”
Fellow seniors Hadley Grundman (seven kills, one ace, on block), Robin Smith (six kills, two blocks) and Birdie Ligos (three kills, two aces, one dig, one block) also made contributions at the net. Also chipping in were Dana Bandurick (one kill, one block, one ace), Alyssa Coates (three kills, one dig, one ace), Kalein Mealey (two aces), Maddy Moore (two digs), Grace Schweizer (four digs, one ace), Carrie Kuiken (three digs, two aces), Sarah Caola (13 assists, five aces, four digs), Johanna Batterton (seven assists, one ace, four digs) and Julia D’Apolito (two assists, one dig)

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, NESHAMINY 0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-16)
In Friday’s sweep, senior outside hitter Megan Manderson led the Titans at the net with 17 kills. Senior libero Morgan McCrory had a big night defensively with 27 digs, two aces and one kill. Setters Erica Werner (four aces, 18 assists, one kill) and Kelly Danyluk (two aces, 14 assists, two kills) combined for 32 assists. Also contributing were Julia Dennis (six kills), Jessica Shelton (two kills) and Alyssa Dallmer (seven kills).

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, HARRY A TRUMAN 0 (25-10, 25-6, 25-6)
Setter Kayla King had a big night at the service line, finishing with nine aces to go along with three kills, 23 assists and four digs. Mackenzie Brooks had five kills, two aces and three digs, and April Neeld had six kills and six digs. Katie Hudson added five kills, one ace, six digs). Kailey Prall led the defense with 13 digs to go along with two aces). Dana Miller added five aces and three kills, and Grace Manganelli had six aces and six digs.

UPPER DUBLIN 3, SOUDERTON 0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-19)
The Flying Cardinals edged the visiting Indians in the opening set and went on to win the next two.
For the Indians, Talia Watson had 10 digs and two aces while Maria Iervolino had six kills.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, BENSALEM 0 (25-12, 25-7, 25-20)
The Patriots rolled to a sweep of the visiting Owls. Setter Emily Lunny had 12 assists while Anna Ritter had one ace and five assists. Devon Hall hit .250 and passed a 3.00. Jenn Krzeminski had three aces, five kills and one block. Jess Guillen added six kills and two blocks. Morgan Beakley had 10 digs and three aces while Morgan D’Angelo had six digs and four aces. Gina Feliz finished hitting .500.

Thursday, Sept. 15
SOUDERTON 3, NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 1 (25-18, 25-21, 14-25, 25-18)
Setter Lauren Hamilton handed out 32 assists and also had 12 digs. Talia Watson led the Indians defensively with 24 digs. Leading the Indian at the net were Tori Reiner (eight kills, three blocks), Miranda Baronett (six kills, 10 digs, three aces) and Haley Novak (six kills, two aces). Hannah Fairweather (four kills), Molly McCarthy (three kills), Monica Miller (three kills, 12 digs), Maria Ierolino (three kills, eight digs) and Bella Mazzeo (two aces, four digs) also made important contributions.

HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, QUAKERTOWN 0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-10)
The Hatters upped their record to 7-0 (5-0 SOL) with Thursday’s sweep of the Panthers. Junior Katerina Yankanich led the team with nine kills on 17 attempts, eight aces and six digs. Senior Holly Owen added six kills and an ace. Senior Allison Laucella had eight digs as well as five aces. Middles Victoria Rapak and MaryKate Scully added four and three kills respectively. Rachel Dittus had 21 assists.
Hatboro-Horsham will host Souderton on Monday night.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 3, PENNRIDGE 0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-7)
Setter Bridget McTamney handed out 17 assists to go along with four aces and six digs in PW’s sweep of the Rams Thursday. Danielle Rippert led the Colonials at the net with 12 kills as well as six digs. Olivia Carbo added four aces and led the defense with 13 digs. Lily Acquaviva added nine kills and 10 digs in a strong all-around effort.
