SOL Girls' Volleyball Wrap (9-2-16)

Check out the results for SOL football teams in action Friday.

PENNSBURY 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 2 (24-26, 22-25, 25-12, 25-22, 15-8)
The Titans won the first two sets of Friday’s season opener, but the never-say-die Falcons rallied for the gutsy win.
“It was a great match, and if this is what the National Conference is going to look like this year, I might have a heart attack,” South coach Kurt Godfrey said. “It was just a battle.
“The third game we were off a little bit, but every single game was incredibly hard fought. My girls dug in all night long.”
The Titans – after edging the Falcons in the opening set - rallied from a 10-2 deficit in the second set to earn the 25-22 win, serving notice that this would be a war.
“A lot of these girls have been on varsity and not gotten a lot of playing time or it’s their first year on varsity,” Godfrey said. “A lot of girls are playing new positions, and we’re still trying to figure out what kind of offense we want to run, what kind of defense we want to run.
“I think we learned a lot as a team. The girls fought incredibly hard for one another.”
The Falcons were led by the overpowering performances of Julia Vreeswyk and Sydney Buell. Vreeswyk slammed home 20 kills and also had six aces and eight digs while Buell had 13 kills and six aces. Cheyenne Agrio added nine kills, two aces and 11 digs. Heather Linker led the defense with 15 digs while Kiley Buckman added eight digs and four service aces.
Leading the Titans was senior outside hitter Megan Manderson, who contributed 14 kills, 10 digs and eight aces.
“She came up huge for us tonight,” Godfrey said. “She’s one of our captains, and she was just great for us tonight.”
Senior Morgan McCrory – who is also a captain – had 30 digs to go along with one ace and two assists.
“If she doesn’t wake up with bruises on her elbows and knees, it’s going to be a miracle,” Godfrey said. “She was all over the place for us.
“We have two brand new setters. Tonight we ran a 6-2, and both out setters – Erica Werner and Kelly Danyluk – were great for us. All night long, I think we had three or four ball handling errors. They’re both juniors playing in their first varsity match, and they were rock solid for us. I think they were great.”
Werner had nine assists and one kill while Danyluck had five aces, 15 assists and 10 digs. Junior outside hitter Alyssa Dallmer added seven kills, six digs, two blocks and one ace.
“I’m really excited for the rest of the season if this is what’s in store,” Godfrey said. “These girls fought tooth and nail for every point on both sides of the net, Pennsbury did as well. I couldn’t be prouder of the way we played. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the ‘W’ but getting off the bus I had a couple of girls say, ‘I can’t wait until Tuesday.’ We have to keep working. It was not the win we wanted but certainly a great start.”
