SOL Girls' Volleyball Wrap (9-5-18 & 9-6-18)

HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 1
The Hatters picked up a huge win over the defending conference co-champion Colonials.
Junior Cam Wild led the Hatters’ offense with 20 kills, and junior outside hitter MaryKate Scully added seven. Senior middle hitter Daniella Spruill added five kills. Sophomore Jess Howard held the defense with 25 digs. Senior setter Rachel Dittus had an efficient setting night with 39 assists. Senior Rachel Dittus and Cam Wild both were impressive on the serving line with five aces apiece.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, WILLIAM TENNENT 0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-22)
The Indians received contributions up and down their lineup in their sweep of the Panthers.
Sophomore Julia Walton led a balanced attack with six kill while sophomore Cora Lake had five kills and also one block. Mary Baniewicz added four kills, one ace and one block. She also had 15 assists. Jill Schweizer had 12 assists, two aces and six digs. Ashleigh Adams led the defense with nine digs to go along with three aces and one kill. Kylie Tinner had eight digs, one block, one kill and one ace. Jenna Hron had three blocks, two kills and one dig. Ashley Kelly added five digs and two aces.
For the Panthers, Chiara Ciccone (15 digs) and Sarah Cummins (nine digs) led the defense. Sara Ingham had five aces, four kills and three blocks up front, and Jackie Essig dished out nine assists.
“The girls are continuing to fight through this tough stretch, and we are going to keep getting better,” Tennent coach Brian Bassler said.

PENNRIDGE 3, UPPER DUBLIN 1
The Rams upped their record to a perfect 4-0 with Thursday’s win over the Flying Cardinals. Leading the Rams were setters Brenna Thomson and Kara Allelunas. Offensively, sophomore middle blocker Isabella Cooper led the Rams with eight kills while sophomore middle blocker Julia Post also chipped in to the team effort with five kills and three blocks. Defensively, libero Kat DeYesso led the Rams in a strong defensive effort to help stymie the Cardinals offensively in the win.

ABINGTON 3, QUAKERTOWN 1 (25-14, 24-26, 25-23, 25-16)
The Ghosts found themselves deadlocked 1-1 after two sets but came back to win the next two.
Kaley Ehnow had a huge night at the net, finishing with 21 kills. Setter Izzy Reilly had 33 assists. Aislin Resurrextion led the Ghosts’ serving game with seven aces.
For the Panthers, Jenny Starzecky had four aces, one kill, 19 digs and one block. Alex Whalen led the attack with seven kills, seven digs and one ace. Mackenzie Mahler added 11 digs, two kills and one ace. Giacinta Barndt contributed two aces, five kills, four digs and one block. Grace Wilson had four aces and nine digs, and Kate Gallagher had two aces and four digs.

SOUDERTON 3, CHELTENHAM 0
The Indians used a balanced attack in Thursday’s sweep of the Lady Panthers. Maria Iervolino had three aces, five kills and five digs. Setter Maya Hanson had four aces, two kills, three digs and 17 assists. Jordyn Peacock had six kills and one block, and Olivia Horas added four kills and one dig.

NESHAMINY 3, BENSALEM 2
After dropping the first two sets, Bensalem rallied to win the next two and forced a fifth set.
For the Owls, sophomore Emma LoStracco had an excellent game in her first varsity start, recording 17 assists, six aces and one kill. Maddie Buechner added seven kills and one block, and Sydney Bawuah also had seven kills to lead a balanced attack. Meg Klaiss had seven aces to lead the Owls’ service game. Middles Sara Streng (three kills) and Zariah Prescott (four kills, two blocks) also had strong games.

NORTH PENN 3, WISSAHICKON 0

Wednesday, Sept. 5
PENNRIDGE 3, WILLIAM TENNENT 1 (25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 25-20)
The Rams held off an improving Tennent squad to win in four sets. Pacing the Rams offensively were junior outside hitter Amber Johns and sophomore middle blocker Isabella Cooper with six kills each.
The young Panthers were led up front by Riley Morang with six kills and on defense by Chiara Ciccone (16 digs, five aces) and Mackenzie Clee (nine digs). The Panthers had 26 aces on the night and were led by Julia Richard with 10 aces and seven assists.
“We went on a long road trip to Pennridge and fought point for point with a very good and aggressive Pennridge team,” coach Brian Bassler said.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 1
The Golden Hawks earned a non-league win over the Crusaders on Wednesday.
Making important contributions for South were Ariana Ranieri (four kills, eight digs), Celina Varian (six kills, nine digs). Setter Paige O’Connell had 15 assists and 14 digs. Bria DeSaro led the defense with 24 digs. Lauren Dougherty (three kills, four blocks), Ava Paulson (seven assists, five aces) and Katie Marsh (two kills and four blocks) also contributed.

GREAT VALLEY 3, SOUDERTON 2
The Patriots edged the Indians in a non-league match Wednesday. Maria Iervolino led the attack with 13 kills to go along with 20 digs and one ace. Amelia Hanson and Bella Mazzeo led the defense with 23 digs each. Hanson also had eight kills and one ace, and Mazzeo added a pair of aces. Setter Maya Hanson handed out 30 assists to go along with 14 digs, one ace and two kills. Hana Ekecs had nine digs and one ace.
