PENNRIDGE INVITATIONAL
It’s been an impressive start for the North Penn golf team.
On Monday, the Knights successfully defended their Pennridge Invitational title, capturing the tournament crown for the second time in as many years with a low team score of 200.
North Penn also had the low individual medalist with Ron Robinson shooting a par 36 for nine holes. Teammate Andrew Lombardo was the runner-up with one-over par 37.
“It’s a good start,” said coach Dave DiValentino, whose team improved to 2-0 on the young season. “Our two top guys, Ron and Andrew, are really leading the team, and they’re super consistent.
“We have a deeper team this year than we’ve had the past couple of years. We have four or five solid guys, and the rest of the kids can go low on any given day. I’m really excited for the season.”
For Robinson, this year’s individual title came on the heels of last year’s strong showing that saw him finish as the runner-up.
“Last year he was tied for the lead, and he lost in a playoff for the low score, so this was kind of redemption for him this year,” DiValentino said. “Andrew Lombardo shot 37, and those two scores really helped us stay on the top.”
This year’s invitational featured all eight Continental Conference teams. While the Knights defeated all seven teams, only the Pennridge match counted in the SOL standings.
“I do like this tournament because it’s early in the season, and we get to see all the teams and how the season will shape up,” DiValentino said. “It’s good to get an early sign of where we stand in the league.”
Central Bucks East’s Tommy Lewis finished third with a 38 while Pennridge’s Nate Hess and Central Bucks South’s Jake Fitts both shot a 39. In the team standings, South finished second to the Knights with a 203 team score.
Pennridge finished its own tournament with a 4-3 mark, defeating CB East (207-210), CB West (207-213), Hatboro Horsham (207-214) and Quakertown (207-230).  Pennridge losses were to CB South (207-203), North Penn (207-200) and Souderton (207-206). All seven matches were league matches.

NESHAMINY 221, ABINGTON 221
(Submitted article)
Abington’s Matt Shur will be a force to be reckoned with this year with a season opening score of 34, -1 under par at Philmont Country Club’s back nine South Course. Shur ended the day with two birdies, six pars and one bogey. Andy Ring was disappointed with his 44, but these two open scoring against Ryan McDonald’s 44 and Mike Anella’s 49 for Neshaminy provided a positive start when the first group finished their round. The Ghosts’ young team showed its inexperience with the next best scores of Zach O'Leary at 47 and Timmy Gallagher and Jacob Dickstein at 48. However, these young players show a lot of promise with more match experience. Chris Benvenutto came up with a solid 40 for the ‘Skins, and  Kyle Everett had a solid 42, which ended the final score for both teams at 221. Abington fell to Neshaminy with Greg DeLuca carding a 50 as the sixth score tiebreaker. It was a tough loss for Abington to swallow, but there were many positives and lessons learned on the course for the Ghosts.
