The SOL National-Bicentennial and SOL American-Continental both lost in Carpenter Cup play on Monday.
OLYMPIC-COLONIAL 18, SOL NATIONAL-BICENTENNIAL 6
Olympic-Colonial exploded for eight hits and 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back on its way to a rout of the defending Carpenter Cup champions. Olympic-Colonial led 15-3 after six innings and then spent the final three innings exchanging runs with the SOL National-BAL. All told, the Olympic-Colonial squad pounded out 21 hits – 11 for extra bases - in the slugfest.
The SOL National/BAL had 13 hits of its own. In a two-run second inning, Devon Prep’s Tyler Wright contributed an RBI single and Truman’s Tyler Brasier had an RBI triple to left center. In the fourth, the SOL National/BAL tacked on a run, benefitting from singles by Holy Ghost Prep’s Brett Sternberg, Dock Mennonite’s Nolan Bolton and an RBI single by Neshaminy’s Brian Nicolas.
A two-run sixth was highlighted by a leadoff single to center by Neshaminy’s Corey Joyce and an RBI double to left center by Philip Stahl. Stahl scored on a wild pitch. In the ninth, Joyce singled to left and stole second. John Crane’s single to right plated Joyce for the 18-6 final.
Joyce (2-for-2, 2 runs) and William Tennent’s Greg Delgado (2-for-3) led the SOL National-BAL at the plate. Joyce and Wright both scored a pair of runs.
Pennsbury senior Billy Bethel – who had not allowed a run in 45 innings – was charged with the loss. All five SOL National-BAL pitchers who saw action allowed runs.
The defending Carpenter Cup champion SOL National-Bicentennial finished play with a 1-1 record.

Delaware North scored five runs in the first inning, and the SOL American-Continental never could dig its way out of that early hole.
The loss overshadowed the stellar performances of several SOL American-Continental hurlers. Hatboro-Horsham’s Alex Crim collected the final two outs of the first inning and did not allow a hit in 2.2 scoreless innings in relief of starter Blaise Sclafani (Souderton). He struck out six and walked one.
Souderton’s Jordan Morales followed with three shutout innings, allowing two hits while walking one and striking out three. Springfield Township’s Nick Pave was equally effective, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out two in two scoreless innings in relief. Andrew Mayhew tossed a scoreless seventh, allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.
The SOL American-Continental – which stranded 10 base runners - scored its only run in the sixth. North Penn’s Ryan Bealer, who tripled to left center to lead off the inning, scored on a groundout by Knights’ teammate Hunter Hamlin.
The SOL American-Continental collected just six hits, which – in addition to Bealer’s triple – included singles by Souderton’s Thylar Summerell and Luke Barnum, Plymouth Whitemarsh’s Kevin Reilly, North Penn’s Tyler Siddal and Billy Collins.
The SOL American-National was 1-1 in Carpenter Cup play.
