Steve Glik – Junior at Neshaminy High School
A three-year varsity player, the junior goalie has been part of Neshaminy’s program since middle school. Glik has turned away 496 of 548 shots he’s faced this season for a .905 save percentage. In an opening round SHSHL Varsity AA playoff game, he turned away 57 of 61 shots in a 4-0 loss to eventual champion Central Bucks South, his eighth game of 40 or more saves. He aspires to continue his ice hockey career at the collegiate level.

Note from the coach:
“I started coaching Steve when he was on the middle school team,” coach Matt DeMatteo said. “He moved up to varsity, and this is my first year on the varsity bench. It’s great to be back with Steve.
“He’s technically very sound, he moves extremely well post to post, he seems to have a knack to keep himself always square to the shooter, which is huge, and he does a great job of controlling rebounds, so there’s not a lot of second chances off of shots. When we plan our defensive scheme, we feel as though if we can contain the shots or keep the shots to the outside and keep the shots out of the main scoring area, we like our chance to stay in a lot of games. His consistency is incredible.
“We actually changed our entire scheme for the CB South game (in the SHSHL playoffs). We changed our forecheck completely, we changed our breakout, and we also changed our defensive zone system. Really what we did is we played a very tight box-and-one within the zone because the last time we played them a lot of their goals came off of their cycle. They’re very strong down low, they move the puck quick, and they cycle in and out of the slot. We felt as though if we could contain that slot and block those seams, they would have to shoot from the outside, and those are shots we like Steve’s chances of stopping. The boys played really well and Steve did his job as he always does.”
“He sees a lot of shots every game, and he’s always blocking them for us. With a young team like ours, we make a lot of young team mistakes, so Steve’s like having a big eraser back there. He’s played some big games for us. I think that last game against CB South was a key game. He stopped every shot we thought he should have stopped. He’s a great kid from a really great family. I’m glad to have them part of the program. He’s got a very dry sense of humor, and the boys love that in the locker room. He’s a great locker room guy, and he’s a very humble kid.”
