And as the semifinal round of the playoffs begin – only Central Bucks South and Souderton remain.  CB East was jettisoned from the playoffs by # 8 Council Rock South 3-2 in overtime, while North Penn was shown the exit door by # 6 Parkland by a 5-2 score.

And the beat goes on…

Flyers Cup ‘AA’ Semifinals
Wednesday – March 12, 2014

# 8 Council Rock South Golden Hawks vs. # 4 Souderton Indians
@ Warwick Ice Arena – 7:00 pm

Flyers Cup Resume:  Council Rock South opened Flyers Cup play with a 2-1 overtime victory over # 9 Boyertown as Jason Brockman scored the game winner.  Nick Keck scored the initial goal for the Hawks, while goaltender Zack Magro was outstanding with 20 saves.  CR South advanced to the semifinals with a thrilling 3-2 quarterfinal overtime win over # 1 Central Bucks East.  Brockman again stole the hero role with his overtime goal, while Keck and Parker DeFelice also scored Hawk goals.  Magro was collected 27 saves against the top-seeded Patriots.  Souderton opened Flyers Cup play with a 5-1 victory over # 13 Neshaminy.  Daniel Rock and Alex Politsky each scored a pair of goals for the Indians, while Charles Kakreka also found the back of the net.  Freshman goaltender Dawson Anders captured 20 saves for the winners.  Souderton advanced to the semifinals with an 8-4 quarterfinal victory over # 5 Haverford.  Rock exploded for six goals in the win, while Connor McCausland and Clay Anders also scored.  Dawson Anders was solid in goal with 27 saves.

Council Rock head coach Joe Houck says:  “We knew going into the playoffs that we were only going to be as good as Zack Magro played in goal.  And he has been in a zone lately – he has been psyched to play the game – and his demeanor has been outstanding.  Boyertown was an excellent team – very much an equal to us – and we played well.  But we played almost a perfect game to beat East.  This is a team that really believes that it can win – and I don’t coach to lose games.  Souderton beat us 4-2 and Daniel Rock is a great player, but we still have a chance.  Win or lose, this has been a very successful season.  These kids believe in themselves – and I have to believe in them.”

Souderton head coach Matt Montagna says:  “It really isn’t a surprise that we’re playing Council Rock South – when aren’t they in the big games?  It is a credit to their program – and (head coach) Joe Houck.  They have a hot goaltender, and we’re going to have to pepper him with a lot of shots.  This is a team that has been together for a few years – 11 of our impact players are seniors.  Daniel Rock scored six goals the other night – and nobody noticed.  He plays with such discipline, and he has developed into a team leader.  Dawson Anders is a freshman goaltender that has played well in front of some very vocal crowds.  He has handled the pressure well – as has our team.  We are ready.”

Winner Gets:  The winner of this game will play in the Flyers Cup ‘AA’ championship final on Tuesday (3/18/14) at the Warwick Ice Arena @ 7:45 pm against the winner of the # 6 Parkland vs. # 2 Central Bucks South semifinal game.

# 6 Parkland Trojans vs. # 2 Central Bucks South Titans
@ Warwick Ice Arena – 9:00 pm

Flyers Cup Resume:  Parkland opened Flyers Cup play with a 7-4 victory over # 11 Spring-Ford.  The Trojans broke open a tight 4-3 game after the second period by scoring three of four goals in the final period to coast to the win.  Parkland – which improved its record to a perfect 24-0 for the season – used third period magic to defeat North Penn 5-2.  The Trojans were deadlocked with the higher seeded # 3 Knights 2-2 going into the final period.  Central Bucks South opened Flyers Cup action with a 6-1 victory over # 15 Council Rock North.  The Titans unleashed a barrage of shots – 67 in all – to rush to the win.  Goaltender Jeff Pelkowski manned the nets in the opening round win and collected 10 saves.  CB South changed goalies in the second round game against # 7 Cumberland Valley and marched to a 6-4 win.  Aaron King was the winning net minder for the Titans and collected 18 saves.  The Titans had six different players score goals in the win.  Dominic Bova, Kevin Casey, Leo Flick, and Jake Bauer have been the stat leaders thus far for CB South.

Central Bucks South head coach Tom Coyne says:  “Parkland is a good team – a good program – you don’t get to be 24-0 and not be good.  The only reason they are a # 6 seed is that whoever judges the strength of schedule thought that’s where they belonged.  We got to the semifinals last year and got beat by Cherokee 6-5 in overtime, and now we are back.  The players want to get past this game this year.  We graduated some big scorers from last year’s team, but this year we might be a little more balanced.  We move the puck around a lot, and we get more players involved in the offense.  We will wait and see about who plays goal for us against Parkland – we have good choices.  We will just go out and play our game the way we have played all season.”

Winner Gets:  The winner of this game will play in the Flyers Cup ‘AA’ championship final on Tuesday (3/18/14) at the Warwick Ice Arena @ 7:45 pm against the winner of the # 8 Council Rock South vs. # 4 Souderton semifinal game.
