William Tennent Panthers

William Tennent (7-3-0) is coming off the biggest win in Head Coach Nick D’Aurizio’s eight-year coaching career.  The Panthers stunned defending state champion Central Bucks South (7-1-1) by a 5-3 margin in their last outing.

“No question that this was the biggest win since I’ve been coaching at William Tennent,” said D’Aurizio.  “To be able to beat a team with that talent and reputation felt good.

“I have told this team over and over that if we want to be an elite team we have to beat an elite team,” added D’Aurizio.  “And the leadership stepped up against CB South – and now we can say that we beat an elite team.”

William Tennent has assured itself a spot in the SHSHL playoffs, and the Panthers are in a battle with Council Rock South (8-3-1) and Pennsbury (7-3-0) for the top spot in the National Conference.

“It feels great to be playing meaningful games going into the playoffs,” said D’Aurizio.  “We have huge tests going down the stretch against teams like Central Bucks West (6-1-5) and Council Rock North (4-6-1) – and we have to both Council Rock South and Pennsbury twice.

“Playing those games at the end of the season will say a lot about where we are as a hockey team,” continued D’Aurizio.  “Every game is going to be a playoff games for the rest of the season.”

William Tennent has received outstanding play in recent games from senior goaltender CJ Lineman, junior Charlie Feeney, junior Alec Dugan, junior Andrew Bean, and sophomore Mike Padgeon.

“CJ Lineman has played incredible for us in goal,” said D’Aurizio.  “And really – the whole team has stepped it up.”

Neshmainy (4-8-0) won a critical game in its quest for the final SHSHL playoff spot with a 6-2 victory over Council Rock North (4-6-1).  Nick Foster scored a pair of goals for the Skins, while Aric Miller had a goal and three assists.

SHSHL Continental Conference ‘Snapshot’
Central Bucks East Patriots

Central Bucks East (5-3-4, 14) is a competitive force in the perhaps the most competitive of the SHSHL conferences – the Continental Conference.  The Patriots are just behind North Penn (8-2-1, 17), Central Bucks West (6-1-5, 17) and Central Bucks South (7-1-1, 15) in conference standings.

“I am a very competitive person and I love that fact that we play in such a stacked conference of good teams,” said first year CB East head coach Sean Mullin.  “We know that each game we play we have to be playing at our very best.  We are fully aware of how good the teams are playing – and that has made our practice time very important.

“I know that if we play a full three periods and play hard - with the talent we have, we are going to win most games,” added Mullin.  “Sure you can run into a hot goalie – or the puck bounces the wrong way.  But we play every game knowing that we can win.

“Our biggest concern is to finish the season strong,” continued Mullin.  “Our goal is to make the playoffs – and once you are in the playoffs, the slate is wiped clean.”

The two biggest games left on the Central Bucks East schedule is a game Friday (1/30) with North Penn and a game with Central Bucks South on February 12.

“Our three senior captains – Nick Chimeria, Luke Rossi, and Austin Chase – have done a great job of working with our younger players,” said Mullin.  “Their experience and leadership have had a lot to do with our success.”

Central Bucks West (6-1-5) moved into a first place last week with a pair of ties.  The Bucks opened the week with a disappointing 6-6 tie to Abington (3-9-1) as John McCreadie scored three goals and Quinn Poirier registered 31 saves.  West closed the week with an impressive 3-3 tie with North Penn (8-2-1) as Luke McCleerey, Joe Anton and Patrick Smith scored single goals and Jonah Brous collected 29 saves.
North Penn (8-2-1) fell in the first place tie with CB West (6-1-5) with the 3-3 tie against the Bucks.  Alex Peterson, Jake Heckenberger, and Derek Heckler were single goal scorers for the Knights.  North Penn goaltender John Roberts had an excellent game with 45 saves.
Central Bucks South (7-1-1) rebounded from its lone loss of the season with an 11-2 victory over Pennridge (2-10-0).  Brian Uzelac led the Titans with a three-goal effort, while goaltender Tim White was solid in goal with 17 saves.
Pennridge (2-10) lost its only game of the week as the Rams fell to Central Bucks South (7-1-1) by an 11-2 margin.  Josh Finlayson scored two goals for Pennridge, while Michael Weaver

SHSHL American Conference ‘Snapshot’
Truman Tigers

Truman head coach Bill Keyser didn’t get what we wanted for the holidays.

“My key player – Zach Bennett – injured his knee and will be out from four to six weeks,” said Keyser in reference to the SHSHL American Conference’s leading scorer.  “He has a slight tear in his MCL, and if things go well, he might be back to play a couple of games before the playoffs.

“But if he’s not ready – nobody wants to rush him back,” added Keyser.  “He is an extremely talented player with a big future in front of him.  This is not the time to take any chances.”

Truman should be more than secure in its quest for a SHSHL American Conference playoff slot.  The second place Tigers (9-3-1) trail first place Wissahickon (11-1-1) in the standings and hold a lead over third place Hatboro-Horsham (6-5-4).  The top four teams make the SHSHL American Conference playoffs.

“We are going to miss Zach, but we have had players pick it up in his absence,” said Keyser.  “His brother (sophomore) Kyle Bennett and (sophomore) Michael Roarty have done a great job scoring goals for us.  They both see the ice extremely well.

“And our defensemen (senior) Christian Morlando, (sophomore) Colin Roberts, and (junior) Ross Koenig have played really smart hockey,” added Keyser.  “And (freshman) Kyle Huth is green in goal – this is only his second year playing ice hockey – but he is learning how to play the game.

“We are a different hockey team with Zach off the ice,” continued Keyser.  “The other players are being counted on to step it up and they have done that – but it will be great to get Zach back.”

Wissahickon (11-1-1) remained in first place in the conference with a 9-7 victory over Upper Dublin (4-8-1).  The Trojan offense was led by Jake Flancer who scored four goals while Brandon Rosoff scored two goals for the winners.  Jake Modelevsky recorded 12 saves in goal.
Truman (9-3-1, 19) kept its hold on second place in the conference with a 9-2 victory over Lower Moreland (1-7-4).  Michael Roarty had a spectacular five-goal performance to spark the Tigers, while Kyle Bennett had a goal and two assists.  Goalie Kyle Huth was solid with 11 saves.

  1. Plymouth Whitemarsh (6-7-1) inched closer to .500 with a key 6-4 victory over Hatboro-Horsham (6-5-4).  Jonathan Isely scores two goals for the Colonials while Kevin Lawrence scored a goal and also had two assists.  Jacob Magill was impressive in goal with 32 saves.
Upper Moreland (5-8-0) fired 47 shots on goals and routed Lower Moreland (1-7-4) - 15-5.  Nick Park had a spectacular outing with five goals and five assists.  Mykel Courduff scored four goals and Colin Burch added three goals for the Golden Bears.  Patrick Beissel had 21 saves for the winners.
Hatboro-Horsham (6-5-4) remained in third place in the conference standings despite a 6-4 loss to Plymouth Whitemarsh (6-7-1).  Zach Aubry led the offense with a goal and three assists for the Hatters in the setback and goalie Ryan McElroy was solid in goal with 25 saves.
Lower Moreland (1-7-4) lost a pair of conference games last week.  The Lions opened the week with a 15-5 loss to Upper Moreland as Cory Blumenthal led the scoring attack with four goals.  Eric Sphar was tested and recorded 32 saves.  Lower Moreland closed the week with a 9-2 loss to Truman.  Sphar was terrific once again in net with 54 saves.
