SHSHL American Conference ‘Snapshot’
Council Rock North Indians

Council Rock North head coach Eric Tyewill retire after his 16th season behind the bench for the Indians at the conclusion of the 2015-2016 season.

“It was really hard to tell the players, but I didn’t want them hearing it anywhere else,” said Tye who also coached four seasons at Archbishop Wood.  “I have absolutely no regrets.  It is not about winning and losing, but coaching is a lot more than showing up for a practice and a game.

“The players come to me as 13-year old ‘babies’ and leave as 18-year old young men,” added Tye.  “That is what I am going to miss the most.”

Council Rock North (11-1-1, 23) has a pair of critical games coming up this week against first place Truman (13-0-0, 26) this Thursday (2/18/16) and Friday (2/19/16).  The Indians must win both games if they want to steal the regular season SHSHL American Conference championship from the talented Tigers.

“We know we have to win out – and the players are excited about these games,” said Tye.  “The team that shows the most discipline and can stay out of the penalty box will most likely win these games.

“Winning two games against Truman would look really good on our resume,” added Tye.  “We have a shot at the Flyers Cup – and both these games with Truman are very important.”

Rock North and Truman – both ‘AA” schools - compete in the SHSHL American Conference with four ‘A’ division schools.  And both the Indians and the Tigers would have to be selected to play in the Flyers Cup as a ‘AA’ team.

“There are a lot of good ‘AA’ teams out there,” said Tye.  “And I feel that both us and Truman are among those teams.”

Stay tuned.

SHSHL National Conference ‘Snapshot’
Neshaminy Redskins

Neshaminy head coach Dave Dugan and his Redskins (4-8-2, 10) are playing for their SHSHL playoff lives this week.  The ‘Skins open the week with a tough game against Council Rock South (10-3-1, 21) and close the week with a contest against archrival Pennsbury (6-9-0, 12).

Win or lose against Rock South – the game with Pennsbury has the playoff implications with the winner earning a third place finish in the SHSHL National Conference and a guaranteed berth in the playoffs.

“Neshaminy and Pennsbury is always a high intensity game in any sport,” said Dugan – a 2009 graduate of Neshaminy High School.  “I still remember the games we played against Pennsbury, and you want to win those games.

“We beat them the first time – and that should give us some confidence,” added Dugan.  “But we are going to have to play up to our best level if we want to beat them.  We can’t play down.”

Senior Ian Dixon has fueled the Redskin offense this season, while senior defender Chris Wojnar has anchored the defense.

“Ian is a flashy player that has good hands and had played well at the end of the season,” said Dugan.  “And Chris has been our leader on defense and is a great defenseman.”

Dugan – in his first year at the helm of the varsity Redskins – doesn’t want to see the season end.

“I have gotten a lot of help from some of the guys I played with,” said Dugan.  “We get amped up for the games – it’s almost like we are still playing.”

SHSHL Continental Conference ‘Snapshot’
Pennridge Rams

Pennridge head coach Matt Stabile and his Rams will close out the regular season against Central Bucks East this week.  And with the expected victory over the Patriots (2-13-0, 4), Pennridge (7-7-1, 15) will record a winning record in the spirited Varsity ‘AA’ division of the SHSHL.

“We lost twice to CB South (15-0-0), CB West (13-1-1), and North Penn (7-8 with four forfeit losses),” said Stabile.  “And we lost to William Tennent (12-1-1) who is in first place in the other division.

“We don’t like the losing – but we were competitive in most of those games,” added Stabile.  “We’ve been right there in most of the games, and we’re looking forward to the rest of the year.”

The first item on the ‘rest of the year’ agenda for the Rams will be the upcoming SHSHL playoffs – and the second item on the ‘rest of the year’ agenda will be a berth in the Flyers Cup.

“We want to keep our season going and win as many games as we can,” said Stabile.  “We have played tough against tough teams all year.”

Pennridge has received terrific scoring from a pair of juniors.  Troy Crosson (21 goals, 7 assists, 28 points) and Michael Padgeon (16-11-27) are among the scoring leaders in the league.

“Troy has improved in leaps and bounds this season,” said Stabile.  “He loves playing the game.  He is dedicated to the team and always brings something positive to the game.

“Michael came to us this year from William Tennent,” added Stabile.  “He has fit right in both with his skill level and personality.  He has been a dream fit for this team.”

The Rams’ anchor along with blue line is formed by junior Luke Gotwals and freshman Eric Slater.

“Luke is one of those players who loves a challenge and never has to be motivated,” said Stabile.  “And Eric is a natural talent that has the ability to become one of the top defensive players in the league.”
