Ice hockey is not a "turn the other cheek" sport.
It is more of a "do unto others before they do unto you" type of game.
Wednesday night at Bucks County Ice Sports Arena, Central Bucks South certainly did unto North Penn. The Titans hung an 8-0 defeat on the Knights in a game that had a bearing on the standings in the Continental Division of the Suburban High School Hockey League.
The win put South two points ahead of Central Bucks West, three ahead of North Penn and six in front of Central Bucks East with the season winding down.
However, standings and points weren't on the minds of either team when the puck was finally dropped. It was more like a war on ice.
"With as much respect as I have for North Penn, North Penn is the one you highlight on the schedule over all the years," South coach Tom Coyne said. "We've gone at it.
"It's always been one of my favorites to watch. Tonight was no different."
Damon Delaurentis, who scored twice for the Titans, knew what was coming against the Knights.
"We had some motivation because we're rivals," he said of the competition between the two teams. "We always put up a good game against them."
And South did.
The Titans scored a pair of first-period goals, followed that up with four in the second period and two more in the third.
North Penn coach Kevin Vaitis wasn't happy with his team's performance.
"Talk about a butt-whipping," Vaitis said. "We got that tonight.
"They were clicking on all cylinders tonight. They just completely outworked us in every aspect of the game.
"We're not going to make excuses. We've got to do a better job than we did tonight.
"Tonight was just unacceptable. The effort just wasn't there."
However, Vaitis also knew what he was up against.
"A lot of these guys have played varsity for a number of years and they're kind of getting to the point now with a bunch of them being seniors that there's some bad blood between these two teams,” he said. “We don't like each other and we're both on the same page there that we don't like each other."
Delaurentis was the top star of the night with his two goals and one assist. And he wasn't even at full strength.
"I'm coming back from an ankle sprain," he said. "I was in Canada about four weeks ago and I was coming off the ice and my ankle just bent really hard. I'm not 100 percent but I'm pretty close."
Coyne is happy to have him back on the ice.
"He makes a difference in that first line with (Leo) Flick and his brother Joey (Delaurentis),” Coyne said. “It definitely lends a bit of pop."
But Coyne also realizes that the Titans can't think of repeating as Flyers Cup and PIAA champions with only one line.
"It really helps that we have four lines," he said. "We have a grind line; we have a finish line; a line that can stop you dead in your tracks and then you have to get past (Connor) Matsinger, (Jared) Conroy and (Thomas) Liberta and then (Aaron) King.
"They're not hung up on who's on the fourth line or the third line. Everybody is starting to click. We got everything we needed tonight."
Despite his displeasure with the game and the way his team played, Vaitis did like the effort of his goalie, Jake Snyder.
"Jake Snyder stood on his head (in goal)," Vaitis said. "The only reason we played 48 minutes and didn't get 10-goaled tonight was Jake Snyder in nets."
Snyder had a busy night. South fired 54 shots on him - he stopped 46.
Meanwhile, North Penn got off only six shots on South netminder King. In fact, the Knights got their first shot on goal in the game with 1:10 left in the first period.
The Titans had no such troubles. They peppered Snyder all night.
Brendan Clements got things rolling for South with 5:29 gone in the opening stanza, scoring off an assist from Conroy.
Justin McGowen followed slightly more then eight minutes later, finding the net with an assist from Clements to make it a 2-0 game entering the second period.
It was nearly 3-0 after the first period when North Penn was called for a penalty which gave South a penalty shot. Snyder was up for that one, knocking the puck away.
Things got tougher for the Knights in the second period. The Titans fired 22 shots on net in the period to only four for North Penn.
And they scored four times. Nick Ligato got the ball rolling with an unassisted goal.
Delaurentis notched his first goal of the game on the power play with assists from Joey Delaurentis and Matsinger. His second marker came in the final seconds of the period unassisted after a goal by Anthony Rubas.
Two more South goals came in the final period. Matsinger scored a shorthanded goal at the 5:34 mark and Liberta at the 10:23 mark on the power play.
The two teams meet again on Feb. 20 in the final game of the season. It should be a beaut.

WILLIAM TENNENT 4, PENNSBURY 2
CJ Lineman turned in a stellar 33-save effort in goal, effectively negating Pennsbury’s 35-22 advantage in shots in Wednesday’s battle of two of the National Conference’s top squads.
Tim McMonogale (Charlie Feeney/Mike Padgeon assists) spotted the Panthers an early 1-0 lead with a goal 5:14 into the opening period. That lead grew to 2-0 when Alec Dugan connected two minutes later (McMonagale/Padgeon assists).
The Falcons cut that lead in half 2:10 into the second period on a goal by Luke Ledes (Tommy Hynes assist), but Padgeon, who led Tennent with a three-point night, answered with an unassisted goal to send the Panthers into the final period with a 3-1 lead. The Falcons peppered Lineman with 18 shots in the period, but he allowed just one goal.
Sean Ovington’s goal 6:37 into the final period gave the Panthers a 4-1 lead. Chris Kreider and Jack McKeever had assists. Pennsbury’s Jack Kelly scored a power play goal late, using assists from Ledes and Craig Meschel, but it was too little too late.
The win gives the Panthers a three-point lead over Council Rock South and a four-point advantage over the Falcons.

PENNRIDGE 8, SOUDERTON 3
Aaron Crosson (one goal, three assists) and Troy Crosson (two goals, two assists) both had four-point nights to lead the Rams to the win over their archrival. Joshua Finlayson contributed a goal and two assists, finishing with three points.
The Senior Night game started off on a promising note for the Indians, who took a 1-0 lead after Nick Mancaruso scored an unassisted goal 7:26 into the opening period. Souderton took that 1-0 lead into the second period and went on top 2-0 after a goal by Josh Reeves (Tyler Johnson assist). Troy Crosson answered with a power play goal to make it a 2-1 game, using assists from Aaron Crosson and Finlayson. Souderton refused to go down quietly and led 3-1 after an Austin Mower goal (Reeves assist).
The Rams responded with six unanswered goals to close out the period. First it was Luke Slater scoring on a power play goal, and then Dylan Lowry connected on an unassisted goal to knot the score 3-3. Goals by Aaron Crosson, Troy Crosson, Luke Slater and Finlayson sent the Rams into the final period with a 7-3 lead. Finlayson’s power play goal in the closing minute (Jacob Whiteman assist) gave the Rams their final margin of victory.
The Rams held a 42-22 advantage in shots. Brian Bingaman turned away 34 shots in goal for the Indians. Steven Wilms was credited with 19 saves in the win.
