NESHAMINY 5, WILLIAM TENNENT 4
The Redskins raced to a 5-0 lead after two periods and appeared to be heading for a cakewalk only to watch the Panthers explode for four unanswered goals in the third period to make things interesting.
Ian Dixon led the ‘Skins with a four-point night, contributing two goals and two assists, and Nick Foster added a pair of goals and an assist.
It was the Dixon-Foster combination that ignited a 3-0 Redskin surge in a six-minute span to close out the opening period with Dixon connecting on a power play goal using a Foster assist to put the ‘Skins on the board. Mike Maher and Dixon scored unassisted goals to send the ‘Skins into the second period with a 3-0 lead.
A pair of second period goals by Foster – the first with assists from Tommy Edwards and Dixon and the second with a Dixon assist – gave the ‘Skins a 5-0 lead after two periods.
The third period belonged to the Panthers. Sean Ovington (Charlie Feeney/Andrew Bean assists) put the Panthers on the scoreboard at the 7:23 mark, and the Panthers pulled to within one after three goals in a four-minute period, beginning with a goal by Mike Padgeon (Alec Dugan/Jack McKeever assists) at the 11:51 mark. Andrew Bean followed with back-to-back goals – the first unassisted and the second a power play goal with an Alec Dugan assist, and with 95 seconds remaining, it was a 5-4 game. That would be the extent of the scoring for both squads.
The Panthers held a lopsided 38-18 advantage in shots, but Redskin goalie Matt Sheley stopped 34 of those shots.
