WARWICK -- Discipline is essential to a hockey team.

It can be difficult watching a game when one team displays good discipline while the other is having trouble in that area.

Wednesday night's 7-3 win for Central Bucks South over Souderton was just such a game. The Titans, the defending PIAA champions, played their usual disciplined style while the Indians struggled to get it together.

What that led to was five South power-play goals by five different players. Souderton also tallied twice on the man advantage.

"I've got to give a big shout-out to coach Shawn McGinty on that," said assistant coach Kevin Carter. "We practiced that this week and it looked great in practice."

McGinty, the Titans' head coach, was called away from the game during the first period due to an illness in his family.

Despite missing their head coach, the Titans got off to a quick start, scoring three goals in the first 5:13 of the game for a 3-0 lead.

"That was our goal," Carter said. "That's something we've been struggling with this year, starting off slowly, letting teams hang in for a little bit.

"Tonight, it was firing on all cylinders right off the bat. We started off physical, which we also wanted to make happen. We did that and it set the tone of the game which is what we wanted."

Heavily involved in the scoring was South captain Matt Stoll. He had two assists, one on a power play.

"We have been able to use our power play advantage," Stoll said. "We work on it a lot and that's one of our key elements. We just keep putting the puck on the net and it keeps working."

On the other side of the ice were the Indians. Head coach Matt Montagna wasn't pleased with his team's lack of discipline.

"(We're) normally a disciplined team," he said. "That's two out of three games we haven't been. You can't give up three power play goals (actually five) and win.

"We went right back at them. We were two-for-three on the power play. But they were stupid penalties."

As for the three quick first-period goals, Montagna was certain he didn't like that.

"That's two weeks in a row that that has happened," he said. "It's no way to start a hockey game. You can't give up three goals that quick."

As for discipline, or his team's lack of it against South, Montagna said, "It's hard to punish one because you're punishing all sometimes, but that's not how we want to play.

"(When) we don't do that, we play well and we win."

Stoll wasn't happy that his team allowed two power play goals to Souderton.

"That's hard, giving up two goals against," said Stoll. "We'll keep working at it and get better over time."

Joshua Sklar got the Titans going quickly. He fired the puck past Souderton goalie Dawson Anders with only 48 seconds gone in the opening period.

The first South power play goal came at the 2:05 mark as Colin Abbnizio scored off assists from Frank Carter and Stoll. Three minutes and eight seconds later, Joe DeLaurentis upped the score to 3-0.

Those three quick goals set the stage for the Titans. They added one more tally in the first period from Matt Milanesi.

However, Souderton wasn't idle. The Indians got a pair of goals in the first, one from Gabe Evans and one from Justin Goshow.

South added two more goals in the second period. Milanesi notched his second of the game as did Abbonizio.

The teams traded goals in the third. Tyler Johnson scored for the Indians and Nick Morelli finished off the scoring for South.

It was an important victory for South as it keeps the Titans near the top of the Continental Conference standings.

"You can never be really comfortable," said Stoll when asked about how the team feels. "You just have to keep looking over your back.

"We're not the same team as last year but we're still a good team. We can't really be comfortable. We have to get that drive to keep winning."
