CB West picked up a big win on Wednesday. Check out all the results.

HATFIELD -- Dave Baun knew his Central Bucks West ice hockey team would be a work in progress the entire season.

At the beginning of the season, the Bucks coach certainly wasn't anticipating making the Suburban High School Hockey League playoffs, considering most of the players on the team were young underclassmen.

But West took a big step toward the playoffs with a 7-1 victory over Pennridge Wednesday evening at Hatfield Ice. The win gives the Bucks 12 points in the standings and keeps them in contention for a playoff berth with Pennsbury, Neshaminy and Council Rock North.

"For us, the playoffs started two games ago," Baun said. "We're in 'must win.'

"We have to win. For us, it was a 100-to-1 shot for us to make the playoffs

"We haven't been to the playoffs for four years now. From the beginning of the season to the end of the year, we're clearly much better."

Sophomore forward John McCreadie echoed his coach's thoughts on both the playoffs and the team.

"It feels really good,” he said. "We've been playing all season against teams that are really good with a bunch of seniors.

"We're really young. It feels good to be in playoff contention."

McCreadie, who scored two goals against Pennridge, has an idea about the improvement of the team.

"We're passing it a lot better," he said. "We're moving a lot better.

"We know each other better. We know where we are going to be on the ice.

"At the beginning of the season, we really didn't know where we were going to be and didn't know each other. Now we're just moving the puck. It's really working out for us."

It certainly is.

The Bucks got out quickly, scoring three goals in the opening period. They added two in the second and two more in the third.

McCreadie scored one goal in the first period and one in the second. Danny Wilson and Shawn Phillips both also scored twice and Patrick Smith had four assists in the game.

But that is what Baun has been teaching his young team all season.

"You can't rush it," he said. "You just introduce a little bit each time.

"We pick up little things. We make little steps.

"All in all, I think they're doing pretty well. I think we're a legitimate team now."

Pennridge wouldn't argue that point. West outshot the Rams 49-21 in the game, including 34-7 in the first two periods.

Wilson, a senior, got the Bucks rolling very early. He beat Pennridge goalie Michael Weaver with only 13 seconds gone in the opening period off a feed from Smith.

Ryan Trefz upped the count to 2-0 1:41 later, scoring off assists by Tanner Ginn and Phillips. McCreadie notched his first goal with 8:21 gone with help from Smith and Scotty Cappuccio.

McCreadie kept rolling in the second period. He took a pass from Trefz and Smith and beat Weaver with the period 7:52 old.

Wilson collected his second tally of the game less than five minutes later, scoring unassisted to make the score 5-0. The goal came while the Bucks were short-handed.

Pennridge suddenly woke up in the third period. The Rams got off 14 shots on goal and scored their only goal of the game.

Jake Wexler, a senior playing in his final game for Pennridge, beat West goalie Jonah Brous with 1:49 elapsed in the third period. Aaron Crosson got the assist.

Phillips finished up the scoring for the Bucks. He got his first goal at the 10:52 mark off an assist from Smith and his second with 13:15 gone with help from Trefz.

The goalies were solid for both teams. Brous stopped 20 shots and Weaver kicked out 42, many of them of the spectacular variety.

CB West plays Souderton on Friday but must wait for the outcome of games involving Pennsbury, Neshaminy and Council Rock North. What happens in those games will go a long way to determining if the Bucks will be in the playoffs.

Pennsbury 5 Harry S Truman 4    (Monday Feb 17, 2014)
Linder Kenyon scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Falcons to a must-win if they hoped to keep their postseason playoff hopes alive.
The Tigers used a Zach Bennett power play goal to go on top 1-0 in the first period, and they led 2-0 after a power play goal by Justin Vickery. Back-to-back goals by Kenyon knotted the score after two periods.
Kevin Koerner scored an unassisted goal less than a minute into the third period to give the Falcons a short-lived 3-2 lead. Truman’s Billy Keyser scored the equalizer a minute later. A Tommy Hynes power play goal 8:22 into the period put Pennsbury on top 4-3, but Truman’s Mike Roarty scored a shorthanded goal to knot things up yet again.
It looked like that tie might stand, but Craig Meschel’s power play goal 15:01 into the period allowed the Falcons to escape with the win.
The Tigers held a 30-29 edge in shots in the evenly played game. Truman’s Christian Morlando was credited with 24 saves, and Pennsbury’s Trevor Schadler had 26.
